Picked up 2 hobby boxes from my LCS today. Got a bunch of SPs. Best card was the Bryce Harper team color swap. Fun stuff to open.

Nearly all the complaints are about price.

There would be zero complaints about far and few hits if price wasnt so high.

Its still a fun product.

The Golden Years for someone aged 45 would be 1980-1985.

I'm 47 this year and first year I got cards was at age 7 in 1980.

Couldn’t stand 76-78 at the time. Still strongly dislike 73, 74, and 76. Some of the worst Topps designs ever.

Just goes to show how personal opinions about design are.

I love the 1976 design and hate the 1970 & 1979 designs....

Bingo.

The complaints about Heritage are about the fact that the price of boxes/cases has risen so high so as to become unaffordable for many collectors, thus depriving them of the fun of ripping/set-building.

$70-75 vs $85-90 a box. $20 difference I don’t think is going to make or break anyone who wants to collect. Honestly, we aren’t talking about a huge difference. If it were $125 a box I get it, but...if $20 a box difference is making it unaffordable I question that.

It makes a difference and I think you’re being light on the dollar amounts. I bought on presell 2016 and 2017 at $62 and 2018 at $65. Presell on 2019 was $90 and even went up from there. I tend to do 6 boxes so that’s $150 difference. It’s not going to break me for sure as my hobby budget is a couple thousand a year. But it’s enough to make me focus on something else.

$20 a box is close to $250 a case. Are you suggesting that paying $250 more to break a product with fewer hits is not a huge difference?

Singles! Singles! Singles!

when I can take a chance on a blaster for $20 or just buy a Soto action for <$20, I'm going to go with the single 24/7.

I'm torn on this point. While I agree with you that an increase like that is quite a bit, no one is forcing anyone to buy cases (or boxes). Ripping wax isn't a right or a necessity. Yes it sucks and I don't like the high prices and lack of hits and rookies either, but that's why I only bought two boxes this year.

The argument was collectors were getting shutout due to drastic price increases that make collecting unaffordable. I just don’t think that most collectors buy full cases. 2-3 boxes maybe, but most collectors are not buying cases. And I don’t think (for most) that $20 more per box on 3-4 Boxes is that much. At $75/box you are at $225. At $95/box you are at $285. Most collectors that are willing to drop $225 are still willing to drop $285.if someone can’t afford $285, they probably should not be spending $225.

The issue isn't affordability....it's value.

So it's not just the increase in box prices, it's also the move from 75 to 100 SP's that has made Heritage less attractive in the eyes of many set-builders.

Well said.

As someone who is on the proverbial fence as to whether or not to build a Heritage set each year, making it more expensive and difficult to do sure as heck isn't going to make me more likely to do it.

Or to put it another way, at $65-70 a box (what I used to pay at my LCS), I'd probably do 71/72/73/74, years with designs I like but don't love.

At $80-90 a box, I'm probably waiting until 2024 when the 1975 design come out.

Have built Heritage since the beginning. Personally, I LOVE the change to 100 SPs. The satisfaction of a complete set is that much more. Do I have to spend more money, sure, but 99% of people’s card money should be play money. Can’t blame Topps/Distributors for asking for more coin from consumers when we keep feeding it to them.
