I don't root for or against the Cubs (just like the Angels until I became a fan from 2018 to 2023), but for card prices in the short term, I actually think him signing with the Cubs would be the best case scenario.

And long term maybe as well.

The Mariners seem to be unloading a lot of salary. They just gave away Kelenic so the Braves can take on Marco Gonzales & Evan White’s salary. Could they be getting ready to take on Ohtani’s salary?

I wouldn't mind it at all, but not sure -$19M for 2024 and -$8M for 2025 is really going to make much of a dent to land Sho.

I was only focused on the 5 teams that have a legitimate chance at signing him.

Ron Washington seemed to be all smiles when asked about Shohei at the Winter Meetings. Saying “I don’t have anything to say about that. I don’t want to let the cat of the bag.” As an Angels’ fan I’d love to have him back although the cost will be astronomical. However, if he does re-sign, it’s going to be fun watching the hobby/baseball world lose their collective sh*t

I’m glad they got rid of Evan White’s contract. He was making stupid money for doing absolutely nothing.

So -$30M 2024. Guessing the no state income tax comes in handy over CA teams too. Adds like 10-12% advantage.

Other speculation is Mariners are shedding payroll because their RSN isn't going to be pulling in as much money.
