This is the only one I have ever seen come up for sale since the product came out in 2001. I'm pretty sure I know of one other but I haven't seen a scan of it, so who knows for certain.

The card is numbered to 25 but there is a Beckett article from 2001 that states there were 5 inserted as live box toppers and 5 redemptions put into the 2001 product (the beckett article pictures one as 6/25). 10 seems like a much more likely print run than 25, given the scarcity.

The guy I bought it from said it was a box topper and he pulled it from a hobby box in 2001. He still had the original card saver and sleeve it was found in.

With all that being said I would say there is a huge variance in prices this card could realize. I would think minimum would be $5,000 and that's because I would buy everyone I could find at that price. I would think realistically one would bring $10,000 and if it went for $15,000-$20,000, I wouldn't be shocked.

I think the floor would be $10,000. And if Olbermann doesn't have one yet you could put that floor even higher.

There you go. I suspect he'd likely set the market if one showed up then.

KO has never chased autographs. He probably wouldn't even be interested. I always heard there were 25 autoproofs. Beckett never knew squat back in those days and topps actually still gave out info on print runs. Even so, 25 or 10, these just never showed up in boxes.

There was also some confusion with the Mays autographs that year. He signed a number of un numbered red inks. These were used as replacements for Eddie Mathews and Larry Doby redemptions....back in the day when topps would replace cards with Mays autographs!! I remember as late as 2003 when you could call topps customer relations department and get a lady on the phone who had a binder that listed all of topps available cards for redemption replacement. She would let you know what she had and you would tell, her which card you wanted.

That Mays is a beauty. Is the ink fading? Thanks for sharing.

I remember those days too Kev. I think her name was Kathy.

And the signature on the Autoproof isn't the bold blue, like on the newer autographs but it doesn't look faded at all in person, just darker. It hasn't left the safe since I got it back from PSA. I always thought it was from the ink soaking into 60 year old paper but who knows.

Anyone remember the toys r us packs loaded with only low number sp's?

Agreed. I would think there is 3-4 autos per case
