I know, it was just a yin to your yang. My favorite stat of his was that 79 season when he lead the league in both wins and losses.

He also won 5 gold gloves. I always remember him as this little old man.

In his 10th career AB Ichiro hit a single that put his career average above .300. It never fell under that mark again.

Eddie Mathews is the only player to play for all three Braves teams. Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta

Agreed that he is VASTLY underappreciated in the hobby!

Was he also a Colt .45 AND Astro, or 'just' a Colt .45?

Just learned today that Jim Palmer pitched 3,948 innings and faced 16,114 batters...and never allowed a grand slam or back-to-back homers. I can't even fathom how that was possible.

You can subtract all 755 of Hank Aaron's home runs from his career line and he would still finish with 3,000+ hits.

There have been 110 complete game shutouts thrown since the start of the 2017 season.

Walter Johnson holds the career record in this category - at 110.

7 members of the 3,000 hit club have pitched in a major league game. 3 of them have a strikeout on the mound.

The players are Stan Musial, Wade Boggs, Ichiro, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Honus Wagner, and Cap Anson.

The only ones with a K are Boggs, Wagner, and Anson.

Boggs is the only hall of famer to pitch in a Rays uniform.

Ron Hassey is the only catcher to have caught two perfect games.

Can't find more updated information, but as of 2018, Mike Trout hadn't gone more than 2 games in a row in his career without getting on base.

Joe DiMaggio didn't get into the Baseball HOF until his 3rd year of eligibility.

HOFer Ted Lyons came up in 1923 at age 22. His best ERA for a season was in 1942 at age 41 with a 2.10. Then he went into the military for 3 years, came back in 1946 at age 45 and put up his 2nd lowest ERA at 2.32....that was only in 42 innings, but still!

HOF'er "Sliding" Billy Hamilton is (I believe) the only player to have more runs scored than games played:

1,594 games
1,697 runs

I pointed this out a few years ago, but still holds true to this day.

Joey Gallo has more XHB's than he does singles. He has 238 XHB and just 163 singles as of yesterday. Don't know of anyone else that can claim that.

Herb Washington scored 33 runs over two seasons for the 74/75 A's without a single official plate appearance.

Probably the only player to win a WS ring without having a single official major league AB.

And that's also been true for every full season of his career.

Of course, he also has more than twice as many career strikeouts (852) as hits (401).

Nobody has ever played for all five California teams in their career.

As far as I know, three players have played for four of them:

Dave Kingman (SF, SD, ANA, OAK)
Elias Sosa (SF, LA, OAK, SD)
Derrel Thomas (SD, SF, LA, ANA)

WTF?

Who in their right mind voted against DiMaggio?

I met DiMaggio a few times as a kid at shows getting his autograph with my dad.

Such an interesting guy. He was really nice with me and the rest of the kids, but had no patience for the adults. He was always dressed like a statesman too.

He was one of the guys I met, Mickey Mantle was the other, that when you were walking away from getting the auto you had that feeling that you just met SOMEBODY. DiMaggio had an aura about him.

Ted Williams was a whole other thing. That guy didn't have an aura. He just frickin' glowed like the sun. Like I just met the greatest hitter past, present and future.

In 1943, Stan Musial had more triples(20) than strikeouts(18) in over 700 plate appearances.

I think people need to keep in mind that HOF voting was very different back then....standards hadn't really been set, many statistics were not being accurately kept, and there wasn't any real consensus on what made someone a HOFer.

- after the first HOF class was elected in 1936, nobody got more than 90% of the vote again until Bob Feller in 1962.

- you had a lot of years where nobody was elected (1945, 1946, 1949, 1950, 1958, 1960, 1964, 1967).

Heck....Cy Young got less than 50% of the vote his first time around and only barely got elected on his 3rd ballot with 76%. It took Rogers Hornsby five ballots to get elected, and one year he got <20% of the vote. It took Mel Ott four ballots to get elected, even though he was the 2nd man to hit 500 HR (after Ruth), and 2nd on the all-time HR list when he retired.
