Some must think tax was invented by America.
Do you know the annual amount of taxes the British Crown sought from residents of the 13 Colonies circa 1765-1776, adjusted for 2023 $USD? If you did, you probably wouldn't have made such a dumb comment.

DC residents still pay taxes but don't have representation.

Who other than you said anything about abolishing taxes? Overtaxation is what I said. Taxes are a necessary evil. Overtaxation is nothing but politicians playing games with other people's money.
And yes, part of our country's revolution did have to do with overtaxation.
Ever heard of the Boston tea party?

The point being is that it was a negligible sum, on the order of about $100 2023 USD for the typical adult white property holding male. The colonists wrapped themselves in the mantle of principle, but in reality they were done with paying any kind of tax to an external entity. Look at how willing Americans were to pay taxes to support the Revolutionary War effort (hint: not very) during the war itself.. So it's.more than just a rhetorical principle - there is an abundance of distrust of government and profound unwillingness to surrender private property at work here. That's the very stark difference between the 1770s and 2020s, where Americans' collective response to confiscatory taxation is, if not a shrug of the shoulders, a grabbing of the ankles.

Others brought up abolishing taxes.

The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that occurred on December 16, 1773, at Griffin’s Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. The event was the first major act of defiance to British rule over the colonists. It showed Great Britain that Americans wouldn’t take taxation and tyranny sitting down, and rallied American patriots across the 13 colonies to fight for independence.

Nothing about overtaxation.

You may think you’re overtaxed. I may not think that I am. Lots of people want no taxes. But we can all vote for someone who can voice our concerns. They couldn’t do that in the 1770s.

A meaningless point made but it was funny because the trolls thought it was some great debate winner without knowing what it meant

It wasn’t the amount, it was the principal

I think most would agree that "taxation without representation" in itself qualifies as overtaxation.
You looked much smarter without replying. Or much less dumb anyways.

Then they’d be wrong.

If everyone agrees we’re overtaxed, why don’t taxes down? It’s such a well known, obvious fact taxes are too high, yet they don’t seem to be rescinded or lighten up. Why is that if it’s a cold, hard, undeniably fact?

If the shoe fits.....
Like arguing with a 12 year old.
Sometimes it's best to just admit you were wrong, but we all know you'll never do that.
Happy New Year, unless of course it's still 2022 in your world where you're always right.

Are you saying taxes have never gone down?
Tell me you haven't a clue about tax rates without saying you haven't a clue.

That might very well be.

But better than a pseudointellectual.
