This thread could have a couple years to go!

Although if the artists who say they aren’t getting UD APs for new Marvel sets begin posting images of Topps US branded APs for a future Marvel set that will probably be the first leak (assuming we don’t get an outright announcement).

Good point, Fanatics got the sports licenses but only when the other companies expired. Of course its a little more complicated with the league and player's associations but the same point applies.

This whole topic has been a boon to views for YouTube content creators. Many of these guys have had frequent interviews with Upper Deck reps in past videos, so I could see someone doing a video soon with a UD rep to “set the record straight.” Although that is probably more likely to happen assuming UD is keeping the Marvel license. If UD lost the license it might not be something the UD rep would want to talk about. So probably something we’d be more likely to hear from a Topps rep promoting the newly acquired Marvel license on social media.

So, if the UD reps that normally do the social media stuff promoting future Marvel sets suddenly go silent…the silence could be deafening and keep the rumors alive. At any rate, the content creators love this type of stuff.

So this whole rumor is because of a Topps Marvel UK Chrome set? And UD doesn't have and never had the Marvel UK license to begin with? Seems like a lot of speculation based on nothing then.

I don't know why people are assuming there wouldn't be Marvel APs if Fanatics takes over. Right now that's a very specific Star Wars thing, and I'm sure it's primarily because of scumbag sellers and artists drawing and selling very lewd imagery on official Star Wars stock, and it finally got Lucasfilm's attention. To my knowledge GPK APs aren't going anywhere, and they're a Fanatics brand.

According to Spidey Hits that's what UD officials were telling people at SDCC, and apparently that was going around at the National too according to Neo Cards & Cards on YT.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

1. UD getting DC license
2. The rapid release of Marvel product like UD is trying to wash their hands of it.
3. Discounted Marvel product on e-pack
4. Topps doing Marvel Topps Chrome in the UK
5. UD not ordering sketchs for Marvel product, but are for DC

It's not just one thing.

It's weird that UD was telling people at SDCC, but not "officially" posting anything on social media. My guess is they think it will turn people off from buying things once the announcement is made. They really need to have an FAQ prepared with, at a minimum, the below (sort of what I posted above):

-At what date do they have to get all sets out the door (this will dictate any of those unannounced sets like Women of Marvel, assuming they are actually coming out)

-Will unopened product still be available to purchase on ePack after *some specific date* (will they be allowed to sell out naturally)

-What happens to sets that are not yet on ePack by that drop-dead date? Or will they push everything there before *some specific date*?

-What will happen to Marvel cards currently ON the ePack platform in users' accounts? Can people still continue to chase achievements or combine cards after a given date?

-How will they handle redemptions after *some specific date*?

Who knows if UD can legally say anything publicly until Fanatics and Marvel make an announcement.

I would say company representatives telling random people at SDCC (unless they "know" who SpideyHits is) what was going on--even at a high level--is public. But I know what you mean. No press releases or anything like that.

I'm sure they had to be tactful. They can't say "no" but they can't be too coy, either.

If I wanted to make a lewd Star Wars sketch, I could just buy any old pack inserted sketch and paint over it. Even easier would be the old pencil sketches, which you could just erase. It seems like a silly thing for a company to worry about, especially a company that puts out blank sketch covers for their comics which are used to produce hundreds of x-rated Star Wars images.

I was at the National and I did a video on this as well as someone mentioned earlier. I spoke with multiple high level people at various different companies that move around the space of cards and all them said the same thing its a done deal. That's all any of us really know at this point no dates no details. So unless a ton of people at two different events are lying this is happening. No one from Fanatics or UD will speak on the record. This is how this stuff works, no one can speak publicly but everyone in this industry just like most love to gossip.

I think a lot of new set leaks in the past tended to come from artists when they received APs for an upcoming set a year or so away. So the fact that those same artists aren’t receiving new blanks gives a little corroborating evidence to the idea that maybe UD lost the Marvel license. We will see. D23 is next week… so maybe news there?

If history is any indication, dont these marvel licenses usually expire at the end of the calendar year? Rittenhouse’s expiration was end of 2015.

It sure would make sense to have a licensing contract end at the end of a calendar year. Whether that year is 2024 or 2025 (or beyond) is the real question.

So D23 starts today… is this the weekend that news of Fanatics getting the Marvel/Disney trading card license drops?

Default Upper Deck has lost Marvel to Fanatics.

I think someone said it previously, but if the large sized cards like in MM XL are a go-around for licensing since they aren’t “cards”, and if UD continues to do an XL for each of the subsequent MM’s (2018-2022), I will be pretty irked by that. Talk about taking away the specialness and limitedness of a whole run of cards. This is very speculative territory though. But if MM16 XL does so well….why not. (if they can).

I just remembered that a Magic the Gathering x Marvel collaboration was announced last year.

https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1570896

While I don’t think this has anything to do with UD losing the Marvel license (or does it?), I would think these cards would be hitting soon.

1 Auto per box in the upcoming GOTG & 2 Auto's per box in the upcoming Marvel Studio's/Disney+ Series 1 product (if I am reading that right on the SC site)...I don't recall seeing so many auto's per case as some of these upcoming products. Looking forward to it.

The Marvel Studios price per box was way higher than I expected. Not gonna pre-order at those prices with no checklist.

I have a feeling it is a sticker dump, and I may regret it, but we'll see.

do you think there will be a sale similar to when they dumped Notre dame cases? I think it was $50/case??

like I wouldn't buy a Shang-chi case for 300...maybe 140.

Id be extremely skeptical at what is on sell sheet at this stage...they have had 'errors' for a few of these boxes now.

Marvel platinum was stated "4 cards print run of 99 or less" but ended up being "4 cards print run of 99 or higher"

Midnight Son was said to have '1 auto per box' but its more than twice as hard to pull

Fanatics Fest is starting today… do we hear anything about them acquiring Marvel US physical trading card license this weekend? Apparantly they have a digital Marvel promo announced, but so far I haven’t seen any signs of physical Topps Marvel cards.

Topps has had the digital license for marvel cards for a while with their Marvel collect app. If they do have the license this would be the perfect time to announce it if they can

I'm going to guess not. I haven't heard or seen anything about other Non-sport/Entertainment genres. If they had more Disney/Star Wars/Dune/Stranger Things promotions for their current licenses I'd lean towards yes for Marvel announcement.

If they wanted to make a splash and put Fanatics Marvel on front page... all they would need to do is copy Hall H and have RDJ come out and do 2 minute promotion for them.
