I agree. I think cards for the losing team are pretty gratuitous and milky unless a significant record is broken in defeat, but I'm totally buying that card.

Damn you Topps! I'm basically your card collecting marionette at this point. Do you just want all my money now and then I can ask you for an allowance for daily survival needs? Does that work for you?

I'm relieved I'm not trying to keep up with daily relic and auto mania at this point. For just the average individual collector, those amounts get pretty nuts pretty fast. I'm also relieved Topps Now didn't exist in 2015 when Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, Baez were rookies, as I'd have been screwed majorly. Hard enough to keep up with all the major Cubs stuff from last year. I feel for all the folks who aren't independently wealthy trying to keep up with the Judge stuff.

Good luck to all in achieving your collecting goals.

Chad

Maybe he doesn't want to keep signing 300 extra Autos(especially now that he has his Fanatics deal). At $1k, it's starting to get to where I'd rather buy a case of something... But, that being said, I love the product and will still buy the ones that are reasonably priced. I think Sanchez was a little high for where he is at now, but reasonable...
One concern I have is that we will see a decrease in the quality of Judge's signature with all these cards and items for Fanatics he will have to sign once the season is over. As of now, he has one of the nicest looking signatures, but who knows if that'll deteriorate over time. Maybe a silly concern on my part.

Though it was over an hour ago.

Fwiw, I have the exact same approach to collecting. Everyone has to make these decisions for themselves as to where their comfort level with risk is and what their collecting and/or investing time horizons are in light of their own personal circumstances. I won't judge others' choices in that regard (pun intended in this particular context).

But given what a lot of these cards cost these days--especially the graded and other high end stuff--I personally can't divorce the collecting impulse from the financial assessment of what this stuff would be worth if I had to liquidate them quickly for some unforeseen and unavoidable reason.

I've struggled with some of these choices with Bryant stuff and learned some lessons from some mistakes. Bryant was obviously one of the huge phenom flavors of the moment the last couple years, and his stuff got crazy bubbly between last October and this March. Seemed then that one had to buy some key cards of his then bc they could bc totally unaffordable in a couple months. Then, he and the Cubs started sluggishly and had a decent but not great season, and new flavors of the moment came along (looking at you, Judge and Belly) and a lot of his stuff deflated by 50% or more.

Because I've tried to keep those downside risks in mind and I try to negotiate hard on stuff, I'm not currently underwater on much Bryant stuff at the moment, but I am on some pieces. I think/hope he will be a really solid player over the long haul, and I think the same of Judge and Belly, but dang can some of these card sub-markets be volatile. I've really learned quickly how much the hobby is currently driven by huge amounts of speculation/short term flip money, and I'm now trying to be as wary as I can of buying into such bubbles in the future.

Great point on Bryant. There was an over saturation of his autos last year, and now they can be had on the secondary market for well below what Topps sold them for. (besides the Bryzzo) The one thing I'm curious about this year's Judge's is if having the RC logo on all his cards will help maintain value despite the high number of them being pumped out.

Judging from how fast this round of Judge cards sold out, I bet any World Series cards start at $1k.

I agree, I don't think the saturation is a bad thing. I like the choice of being able to choose what RC moment auto card I can from the ROTD to the 2 hr game after smashing the TV screen to the breaking the Rookie HR record.

I think the cards being combined with these moments = special cards that will hold not only value but a place in anyone's heart that wants to relive that moment!

What price did they offer on the Hoskins?

He just inquired didn’t give a price as it is not even up at auction...Turns out he’s a Phillies fan and was satisfied that the card was in the right home...I did say make an offer but it would have to be insanely high. He declined...I’d consider $10k but not even sure I’d take that

Cool. I’m also a Phillies fan and glad one of us got the card. I wonder if Topps would make a game used Jersey relic card if you supplied them the jersey?

Question out of curiosity. If the two teams you liked the least played each other in the World Series, what would you do?
