Cards are so dumb; hes having a wildly better overall season this year than last and his cards have plummeted. All he needs to do is start walking more and we have a guy with MVP potential

How is he “wildly” better? OPS+ of 100 this year vs 103 last year.

It’s the look in his eye. If you saw it, you’d know.

The only thing I don't love about Witt right now is his obp. It's terrible. But the eye test tells you he has elite skills. He has power. he has speed. And he hits lasers all over the field. He can develop that patience.

The thing that sucks for us is he plays for KC. His cards are a steal right now. Imagine Witt in a somewhat decent lineup. All his stats would be better and he's already pretty damn good.

I know this isn't what you meant, especially since defense doesn't drive any semblance of hobby value, but Bobby went from substandard defensively to a 99th percentile Outs Above Average ranking.

Offense hasn't moved at all, but he's been a lot more valuable because of what he's done in the field.

Defense is only half the game and basically none of the hobby value. So when someone says cards are dumb because’s he’s wildly better this year and he just needs to walk to be an MVP candidate, you have to laugh.

His cards are down because the market is down and he’s not meeting expectations for a second year in a row. The way top prospects are priced does not allow for them to have their performance grow into their pricing. They need to produce from the jump.

This....is laughable.

He isn't terrible defensively this year, but he is producing at pretty much the exact same clip he was last year.

I don't mean to dog on the guy, but he's pretty average/above average player and he's hyped up as an elite guy.

He either needs to hit for:

A. Way higher average to increase average and OBP

B. Way more homeruns to increase slugging

C. Walk way more to increase OBP

D. A Combo of all the above in some fashion.

It's not like he's downright terrible like Javy Baez, but it's also not like he's prime Lindor either.

It's his second year though. This guy is a young pup. And he's likely gonna hit 25 or more HR's and steal 40 bases for a trash Royals team. And he's what 23 years old. Give him a little time to mature and that obp will skyrocket.

Not to mention Kauffman is not a park that's nice to hitters and he plays for a garbage team.

THIS is the real problem with the card industry. We write guys off so quickly. When Ohtani got hurt. He looked like a bust now his damn generic psa 10s are going for a g or more.

Same thing with Tatis. Popped for the peds and injuries. Now he's back like he never left. Acuna is gonna be the NL MVP and his cards dipped way down after his injury.

These guys are all young and haven't even hit their prime. And a guy has a blip on the radar. And down goes his value.

I'm trusting Witt long term. Especially when he's proven he's a star and gets traded or reaches free agency. Watch the boom.

Because the buyers price prospects for perfection immediately. What kind of OPS+ should a $1250 PSA 10 BCA get you in year 2?

Which is stupid. Elly De la Cruz is a perfect example. Once the league figures him out. He's gonna have to make adjustments and he'll go through a slump of his own. He's just a flavor of the month right now. Not saying he doesn't have staying power.

But Witt is being slept on so hard. He's been steady but he hasn't has a real run of games where he has just caught fire. He will though.

Elly is actually going through quite a bad slump already and people are paying prices as if he was 18 and on the MVP race or something like that lol.

I agree on Witt his potential and current low prices are screaming hold and buy

You know who else hit 20+ homeruns on a trash team his 2nd year in the majors?

Ryan McMahon.

Yes, Witt is still young and can improve. I imagine he will. But you are basically stating he is going to be a guaranteed top tier player, and I completely disagree.

That does not mean he's trash, but instead of being a lock for top voting SS in the All Star game/top 10 MVP vote getter, he will be an occasional all star and put up respectable seasons. And he is currently being priced like he is an All Star, MVP vote getter and he is neither one of those things.

Current prices really aren´t that high considering other Top players and his potential. I don´t believe he is priced as an MVP vote getter or anything, that might have been last year, but today he is selling for 50-75% less..

For Shortstops he is doing the same or better than most in many categories and he is not even close to his prime.

#1 in Stolen Bases
# 2 in Hits
# 2 in Total Bases
# 3 in SLG
# 4 in Runs
# 4 in HRs
# 4 in RBIs

I would say that is very good for his 2nd season at 23 years old and playing for an awful team.

he's tied for 4th in runs with 3 other players, and basically could fall to 9th/10th easily
Tied for 1st in stolen bases with Wander, also 2nd in caught stealing but I guess that doesn't matter to you
Right now 2nd in hits, but what separates him and 5th place is 2 hits
9th in average
8th in OPS
13th in OBP

But basically, he's an average/slightly above average shortstop right now at best.

I never said the negatives don’t matter lol

I was just pointing out Witts positive points. Which he has quite a few to build on.

Especially as I mentioned being 23 and on a mediocre team

Being 4th in many categories on his 2nd year compared to players such as
Lindor, seager, correa, bichette, franco, bogaerts, tim anderson ,swanson, pena, trea turner, volpe and others is not bad at all

He is doing ok
Volpe on the other hand
