It's been a long day and I'm beat, can someone fix me a Jack and Coke while I'm posting up today's HOF'er? Better make it a double.

You slackers better wake up today, this guy can be had for under $10. There is no excuse for anyone not to have at least one and Mike probably has 92. I even have multiples and I hate multiples.

This is cool, it has me wondering what the oldest card I have an auto on is. I may have to look into it.

Edit: Speaking solely on baseball, I have quite a few '61's but the oldest card I have auto'd is a '57 (Nellie Fox).

I have (2) 1948 GPC's.
I'll just post one.... they're virtually identical.

Yeah, he's one of the few on my "20th Century Impossibles" list. To me, players who played in the 20th Century, died 1950 or earlier, and inducted posthumously.

Here's an example:

And here's a rough one for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1928-NY-Gian...MAAOSwQYZWx4B6

Late to the party on Wade Boggs, but here is a sketch card I created of him some time back that I got him to sign.

One of my favorite things to do is to create sketch cards of athletes to get signed.

Let's try to get back on track. Today is a modern player but a tough one to get as he detests signing. He's picked up the pace over the last few years but mostly in unlicensed products.

GEORGE BRETT

Primary team: Kansas City Royals
Primary position: 3rd Baseman

By the Way, JMSCOGGIN,
You can probably generate more interest into the thread if you edited the Title of the Thread daily with the Player's name...You made the thread so I'm sure you can edit it, no?

I bet tons of people avoid the thread just cuz they looked at it and didn't realize what you are doing...

This is a great place to bring it up. Someone here likely owns one, knows where one is or can keep an eye out for it in their HOF hunting. Good luck to you on your search.

That is a good question. I looked into editing the title after The Nail raised issue with it but I couldn't figure out how. I'm certainly open to any assistance as I'm pretty sure it's possible to do.

As far as adding the daily HOF'er, that isn't a bad idea. It was never added originally as it wasn't initially a part of the thread. It was a relatively new addition that I added to spark new interest because people were no longer sharing their pieces. It's worked like a charm too. Your suggestion would certainly drag in new people so I'd love to include it if I can figure it out.

Then again, I do kind of like that we only attract true HOF collectors. For the most part, it keeps the riff raff out. Will need to call a fence repair guy though as it seems we have a hole somewhere.

back on track:

i think the '76 card is harder to find centered and one of the few instances in which a second year card is more valuable than the rookie card in high grade: ie 71 munson.

I've shared this story before but it's a good one so here goes....

George is co-owner of the single A team here in town along with his brother. In the late 90s' and early 2000 he'd come to town once or twice a year and sit in the owner's box. One night after a game I hung out outside the clubhouse hoping for an auto. This was the summer he was elected to the HOF and their was a Miller Light commercial with him and Yount. Brett had like 98% of the HOF votes and Yount had a lesser percentage. The commercial ends with Brett and Yount arguing about "tast great, less filling" (I think?). Anyway, Brett ends the commercial with "Are you 98% sure about that....". Reference to his HOF vote percent.

Anyway, Brett comes out of the clubhouse and makes a bee line for the exit. I politely ask for an auto and he says no without turning around. So I say 'Are you 98% sure you can't sign?". He gets a big chuckle and turns around and comes back to sign for me. Still wouldn't personalize it, but oh well.

I did that and it changed the title of the OP but not how it appears in the main title.

That's awesome. I remember that commercial very well. Yount was telling Brett how bitter he sounded because he didn't have 2 MVPs, and Brett kept beating the whole 98% thing into Yount.

I met both guys during their final year (1993) in Arlington, when I was 14. Both came over by the dugout to sign before their respective games. Yount seemed nice, although he was trying to sign for as many fans as he could and was quiet as a result. Brett seemed like he was obligated to sign and didn't enjoy it, but he wasn't a jerk to me or anything. Maybe if I had gotten him one-on-one and he felt like I was bugging him, then he would have acted like a jerk, but he was okay on this day.
