Those numbers are very misleading. Johnson is rarely on the floor against the opponents starting 5. When he and Luka are in the game together the Mavs usually have an advantage because it’s against a majority of backups. Yes there are a few moments when it’s against quality guys but not a majority.

I don’t see any issue giving Johnson a few extra minutes going forward but he’s not going to give you the production those numbers say. Kleber hasn’t played well but he’s still a much more reliable player IMO.

Even if I add KP to those queries it's still a massive difference.

+/- with Maxi/KP/Luka is -21 opponents TS% is 62%. Swap out JJ for Maxi they are +18 and opponent TS% drops ~5%

I think Maxi is terrible. I mean, the stats say he's ok but when I watch him he just looks bad.

Maxi and KP combo has been rough defensively for sure. They get murdered in the pick and roll when switching onto a ball handler.

I think it’s a coaching issue as much as a player issue. They HAVE to fight through screens up top, but they just refuse to do it.

They most certainly need to add a defensive stallion here to be able to get the playoffs. Luckily I think that’s an easier task then adding a 3 and D guy. We just need a straight D guy!

Like I said I don’t mind seeing what JJ can do with the first team but he’s a veteran who really hasn’t proven he can play against top tier guys. But at this point it’s worth the shot based on the numbers you have given

I’ve watched every game the Mavs have played this year. Johnson is a net negative on the court. The on/off backs that up. Maxi is still working his way back to shape. And his problem like Derek said, is he’s a terrible pairing with KP.

KP’s defense is the problem for this team.

Maxi is a good defender in the paint. He was the first player to really give Zion a hard time last year. He has made dozens of critical and at times game changing blocks. He is not a good perimeter defender. Curry tormented him last week.

His defense against curry means nothing. No big is going to look good guarding curry.

Hoping that he picks things up moving forward. Mavs can go 6-2 or 5-3 over these next 8 they’ll be in solid shape.

Great when he makes them. Not so much when he gets cold. They need a real big man if KP wants to play the 4 and launch bombs. Even someone like Tristan Thompson would be good for the Mavs, a 10-10 guy. Not only for the interior scoring but the offensive rebounds.

just curious to where all the Maxi Kleber hate is.

Kleber averages 4.8 FG attempts with 3.5 being 3PT attempts - 73% of his shots are 3s... plus he averages 5.3 rebounds

Kristaps averages 16.6 FG attempts with 6.1 being 3 PT attempts - 37% of his shots are 3s.... plus he averages 8.3 rebounds

Kleber takes 73% of his shots from 3 and doesn't get nearly the rebounds as Kristaps... Kleber does hit 47% from 3. Is that why he gets a pass?
