Ohtani is actually a pretty eloquent dude in Japanese. Will didn't do a bad job, but yeah, things are always lost in translation.

Well.. interesting stuff in this thread lately. If anyone wants to talk about cards, I became a gold refractor person. Had the 2018 for 4 years now but grabbed these over the off-season.

I agree with the latter statement.

That said, to be fair, there are a lot of professional athletes in Japan that fully leave their finances to family members and advisors. Especially in baseball since it's literally a 24/7 job to train - they even sleep in a baseball dorm during highschool. If Ippei was a signatory on his accounts with full trust, I think both parties are correct in that he's innocent, but needs to grow up.

Will's translation was more textbook. I'm sure he was nervous as hell that all words would be nit picked by millions. I don't blame him for not accentuating the flare in some statements. Hopefully we get some more personality from his translations in the future (if he stays his interpreter).
