Possible trade opportunity…

2018 Topps Chrome Blue refractor /150 PSA 10 (my card)

For

2018 Topps Chrome true Gold refractor /50 BGS 9 (10,9.5,9,8 sub grades)

I think the cards are somewhat even in value, and I’m still looking for the right deal on a rookie auto, but man that gold is nice!

Good move on my part?

reads like a PSA 7 Gold Refractor

are you able to get an inperson look at the gold?

Unfortunately no.

Based on what it looks like in the BGS slab, my plan would definitely be to crack and let PSA take a look at it. The surface grade has me hesitant.

sounds like an interesting trade!

one of the only good things left about BGS is that you can look up the cert and see the date it was graded.

even if it IS a PSA 7, i would rather have the real gold refractor

Thanks for that info!

It was recently graded a few months ago…. Not sure what to make of that.

I wouldn’t take that trade. If the person is savvy enough to send it in for grading, they should be savvy enough to crack and re-sub it to PSA themselves. I suspect they won’t, because they’re aware that the card has flaws that PSA will discover.

Think about it this way - if the above happened and the card came back a PSA 9, do you really think the person would be making this offer to you?

I’m following your logic, but I will say, or maybe should have already said, he’s not presenting this trade. We’ve both express interest in the others cards and this seems like a possible trade, neither of us has presented a trade yet.

He did say that he didn’t have the card graded, but that it was graded express at a card show. He traded for it very recently.

Also, even if the gold was in a PSA slab, there is one listed on eBay now for 5k, so I’m not sure our values would be that far off at that point either but I’d be a lot more comfortable with the trade.

Maybe I’m late on this but looks like this image never made it into dynasty? Been waiting around for it but realize there’s already 2 variations out there

*Edit, unless its the Gold 1/1?

Normally, I would tell you to take the rarer, more desirable card, but I would always ALWAYS wonder why it got an 8 surface and it would bug the crap out of me. If you're anything like me (no worries if it doesn't bother you), I'd move the blue PSA 10 and sit for a solid gold 9 to pop up - which I think is attainable for ~5K range. I have learned through collecting Ohtani to always be patient, even if it's hard. There's no need to immediately flip and convert.

I was waiting for it too and it hasn't showed. I'm not a fan of the airplane one - it's so overused at this point.

I noticed there is 2 variations listed on the checklist. Then I noticed they’re the airplane one and the other of him walking on the field. It says they’re to /10, /5 and gold to /1. The celebration picture is a gold 1/1 but I feel like the other 2 images would just have their own gold 1/1 version and the celebration got scrapped.. regardless its a 1/1 or doesn’t exist. Both not ideal lol.

Just about ready to shill out several thousand on one of these. Do I wait, or is now as good of a time as ever?

Batting or pitching?

You might save a little if somebody randomly auctions one in November/December timeframe but probably not a ton and that’s if he doesn’t end up with some kind of crazy DH MVP or triple crown or something.

I think like Trueblue said when he finishes rehab and the two way player stuff comes back full force those rookie autos certainly aren’t going down in price.
