Looks like Camden actually doubled their number of cops. They're just technically Camden County now, instead of Camden the city. And are from mostly the nicer towns outside of Camden.

Are people that are calling for change really going to be OK with more police? That's really not the message I'm hearing. The loudest message, at least.

Increasing the head count was a trust-building tactic, says Thomson, who served as chief throughout the transition: Daily, noncrisis interactions between residents and cops went up. Police also got de-escalation training and body cameras, and more cameras and devices to detect gunfire were installed around the city.

I think it probably exists on a spectrum.

I read police not responding to ODs and letting other emergency services handle it. Who knows.

The “no police force” thing isn’t a reality, no matter how many lunatics scream it. I didn’t know about the Camden thing until these Minny chants started. Pretty astounding and well done for Camden.

In my city (Austin):

APD office paid roughly $75K starting pay
Travis County Sheriff paid roughly $40K starting pay

Seems like you could get more bang (great pun) for your buck if you reappropriate those funds.

Heard a story on the news about the protests. The CDC said that it's "too early to know how the protests will affect the pandemic". They're "monitoring the protests". But they can take the time and effort to issue a statement about how tear gas can make the spread worse. Lol. Seriously.
