In terms of OP's question (who would you buy more of and who would you start a team with) I go with Acuña.

Both are terrific talents, but Acuña is more dynamic and exciting, which is better in the hobby and for ticket sales/merch, etc...if you're running a team.

Soto may have more of an impact at the plate with the walks and such but Acuña has also improved a lot in that area.

That said, right now I'd rather sell Acuña to buy Soto as opposed to the reverse bc I do think the Soto market is depressed.

But long term, I'd rather hold RAJ.

I like Soto at 1B then DH, love Acuna Jr he’s got to watch how aggressive he is in OF to avoid another leg injury.

Cool story bro. I love Soto. Always have. I have tons of Soto cards. I check his games and boxscore almost every single night. Now back to my question: What age does Soto become DH (mostly)?

He scares me at least once a week chasing a foul ball into a wall!

Welcome to a forum where discussions are had. Where hypotheticals are thrown out and discussed. Where pictures are posted. And where people talk about sports and sports cards.

I think you may take yourself a little to seriously. I'd vote 32. So young 30s and for the most part only DH'ing. What does that do to card prices and legacy? He's projected as inner circle HOF'er.

what if he ends up with the yankees? wins 2 more titles, ends up with 500+ maybe 600 home runs. there's variables you're not taking into account.

that goes for both. acuna may end up toast at 29, juan may dh at 28 and not sniff 500 home runs. Nobody knows.

Or they both are like magic and bird of baseball. again, nobody knows.

Don't know how Hanley's mental game was...but Ronnie seems to be about the game seeing how hard he has worked these past two off seasons (saw a lot of that on his IG). You read stories about his mom talking about Ronnie crying after his knee injury that he would never play again. That to me shows someone who cares about playing, the game...despite his younger days' antics of not running out fly balls he hit (I don't know how many infield singles he has had this season but he busts down the line now). Think the knee injury might be the best thing that could have happened to him in his career as it was a bit of a wakeup call to not take the game for granted or the game might be taken away from him. Him having Miguel Cabrera as his idol growing up is not bad either.

Good points. He was busting it the entire offseason while other peers where vacationing in exotic locations. The only location I saw Ronald in was some dump of a town on a dirt field. I think its also interesting that Soto is about to sign his mega contract in the next 18 months. Acuna hasn't signed his and wont for years. Im always a little worrisome of guys after they sign that mega baseball contract. How many times does it just not work out?

idk superman brandon might not give your opinion full weight considering you read articles. He doesn't like article readers.

How sick would that be? He can name his curveball “the nutter”.

~ You must have missed the title of the thread.

Soto has been in regression mode the last couple seasons. Acuna is closing in on an MVP and I expect to continue to get better. I don’t expect Soto get get any better.
Still feel that way?

I think this is a very interesting question and the answer might not be known for another few years or so. I collect both! But I have a much larger Acuna collection because he is the more exciting player (in general) and I feel like the power/speed guys in general have more of a hobby following. Soto is in the AL MVP race this year, while Acuna is having a terrible year (for hobby standards). I feel like their cards are very similarly priced depending on who is having the better season.

Baseball Savant has the Stat Cast bat tracking data available now and it makes it clear how special Soto is. He's top 10 in terms of how hard he swings on average and still ranks 3rd in the rate he squares up which puts him up there with contact hitters like Arraez. He's got a freakish profile of power and contact that sets him above the rest of the young sluggers IMO.
