Upper Deck Series 1 20-21

Opened box #1 of my hobby case and all 6 Young Guns have rounded corners... Not sure what to do?? The other cards are all fine except for 1 of the base card had some top edge damage.

Whereas hockey is my favorite sport, I have way more knowledge of the baseball market; is this the highest a young guns Lafreniere will be? Do these things blow up? Dude is not going to be the next Crosby/McDavid so I am thinking it will drop soon. Am I right on this?

If you're on Twitter reach out to @upperdeckassist. A lot of people tweeted to them about the same issue so they are well aware of some Young Guns having rounded corners.

All YG in one of my cases were like that. They responded on Twitter and asked me to email, which I did yesterday am and waiting to hear back. They are inundated right now so their response time is longer than normal (what they told me on Twitter). All my base cards 1-200 had same issue. I'll keep you posted, please let me know how you make out as well.

OK box #2 more of the same. I'll defintely reach out to UD assist on Twitter. Not expecting GEM mint cards from all of them, but this is ridiculous. Not sure how they make it right???

Anyone do worse in six hobby boxes than no Laffy (save the YG checklist, which i managed to pull three of), and no numbered parallels?

As a secondary kick in the teeth, the box hits that tend to accompany the YG checklists were seemingly a Die-cut worldwide Zuccarello, a Pink Dazzle Mackenzie Blackwood, and a Riley Stillman sticker auto...

At least i got them before they went up to $120 a box, I guess.

I think brutal is exaggerating things a bit, but I’ll take a little extra foil over rounded corners any day.

Add me to the list of rounded corners.

Opened a few cases and one case the whole case had rounded corners. The weird thing is the corners are perfect except they are rounded, meaning they where cut that way and did not happen by rolling around in the pack.

Other problem though is a lot of them had extra foil splatter (for lack of a better word) on a lot of the cards.

Please post when anyone gets a response back from UD.

I purchased 3 loose boxes from there this week. Maybe it was the same case as your box. All of my young guns were damaged pretty bad. Pretty much all the cards in boxes had issues, even the base. I've reached out to UD to see if they can help, but have not heard back. Here’s a sample.

Was it all base cards 1-200 and base YG that had rounded/worn corner issues? How were your inserts, canvas, canvas YG, and any exclusives? Mine was strictly base 1-200 and base YG. All insert, canvas, exclusives, french text, suit variation were ok. Curious if it was same for you guys.

I would think so. I thought a suitable price would have been $100-150.
First few auctions up to $500 I think and now the asking price seems to be $380.
Chalk it up to Covid madness, and his french heritage.

I bought a whole entire case. And some of the 1-200 base are fine and others have the rounded corners.

Wonder what UD could do?

I agree, but also the fact that they moved up the card specifically for him with COVID and the photo shoot reflects that. The card already has a story and he if he turns out to be a generational player the card value will skyrocket.

It’s the usual early craziness, but prices are already north of Matthews & MacKinnon. If he doesn’t perform in the McDavid tier I don’t think people will care about the Covid part later. Maybe if the card is difficult to grade.

From small reports here, some base/YGs are busted, and these cards are so easy to nick that that it might be hard to grade them. The top right corner of my French Alexis has the slightest white spot fresh out of the pack (pic is on a previous page in this thread).

I want one for my PC as I am a huge Ranger fan, so trying to balance whether I should offload my french version asap to catch the wave then buy down the line.

The prices of Laf are out of line IMO. McDavid didn't command those prices upon release, and Laf is no McDavid.

I think they are out of line as well; if the price goes up over time, that means the Rangers got a real #@#@#@#@ing stud, so it's a win win. Appreciate the feedback, all!

You would think that with the relevance of condition and grading that Upper Deck would have better quality control.

Complaints of rounded corners are all over the internet and I feel for those who spent money awaiting the release.

Don't let Upper Deck off the hook, you deserve better.

If you guys were going to put together an entire insert set (like the Dazzlers Blue and Pinks) should I start ponying up for the current FS prices or will those prices tank like everything else that starts high after release?
