It can't come from the manager, only the hitter, catcher, or pitcher can invoke a challenge.

Yeah, it just seems like that’s ripe for players to burn through challenges quickly when they shouldn’t be calling them. How many times a week do we see a player slide into second, get called out, immediately turn to the manager begging them to challenge, only to see a reply where they are out by mile with a clear tag. It’ll be interesting to see how teams manage who gets to make the call and when.

I think ABS will improve the entertainment of the game. Again, tennis has adjusted just fine.

I don't want to see players thrown out for bad ball/strike calls and I'm sick of seeing umpires make bad calls out of spite, which clearly happens.

Just because fans could get used to ABS, doesn't make it a good thing for the game. People can get used to many things, good or bad.

The question should be, would ABS improve the entertainment of the game? Because entertainment is what MLB is in the business of -- people pay to watch MLB games so they can be entertained. Having a computer system automatically deciding balls and strikes is not exactly compelling stuff. The challenge system, on the other hand, can add more suspense and strategy to a game. And it can help eliminate the egregious calls that regularly elicit anger from players, managers, coaches and fans.

if one were to burn through the challenges often i would imagine that would not go over well in the clubhouse

This might have already been asked but how are they going to stop teams from setting up signals, from the dugout, for batters/pitchers to challenge?

It needs to happen so quickly that there wouldn’t be enough time for any elaborate clubhouse-to-hitter smoke signal system.

Maybe a system using loud noises, masked as stadium sounds, could be a method.

I hear metal trash cans are popular in Texas.

I'm as anti-technology as the next person, but with so many bad calls over the past few years I would welcome ABS. But please, get rid of the time clock and the throws to first rule at the same time.

I don't mind the pitch clock, but I would like to see the throws to 1st go away, the minimum 3 batter rule for pitchers, and the ghost runner go away.
