I have mainly been buying low end RC parallels and numbered cards when I find a deal. If I find the right deal at some point I would like to pick up a RC auto.

I do happen to have a few "gold" parallels in my collection!

Those are some great looking cards, but your argument is the same as someone stressing over holding five $20 bills versus a Benjamin - it's all USD and it's all Ohtani. Again, not a knock on your collecting style, but i don't think your budgeting strategy is doing any favors for your pricing angst.

If I had to go back and do it all over again, and I did really-really well, I would have gone more heavily into quality over quantity.

This is good counsel.

Look at one of the hottest hitters, Juan Soto's base PSA 10s. The Heritage 502 PSA 10 is like a $25 card right now. The little money flowing back into Juanito is going to higher end (BCA PSA 10 $3K), most likely from existing collectors. For bass to go up, you need net-new collectors that are buying entry point cards. That's not happening unless new money pours back into singles. And that's not happening unless expendable income rises. And that's not happening unless people have money to spend.
yeah, it seems like the actual amount of end-user collectors is dwindling by the day, pretty much every popular player in every sport (aside from Luka Doncic because of the last week) is trending down over the year.

Sales and attendance at the National will help put an actual pulse on things.

Shohei Ohtani continues to be the only active player I feel comfortable spending >$1k on for a single card.

Short list I agree. I would throw Judge on the list and that's it.

Also agree! Ohtani in baseball and Mahomes in football are the only two active I’d pay 1k+ for. Other than that it’s retired or dead people.

Topps announced today that Ohtani's first Dodgers Topps card is the same photoshopped image they used in the 2024 Topps Dodgers Team (blister) Set

what a lazy job

Crosby, maybe McDavid as well. I suppose Messi is still active too.

100% agree

Soto, Betts and Judge are in the conversation.

All other active hitters are a pass IMO

I will say that I prefer this current market over the pumper boys buying a card and immediately listing it for 300% on FB and acting like the biggest Shohei fan on the planet.

Maybe I'm just going crazy but I feel like his stance is a touch 'taller' than before the injury. Watched some highlights from April and still kinda feel that way.

Looks a little more open with less stability/pushoff on the back leg. Maybe in line with what you're saying.

Noticed that as well! 100%. I was watching past ABs vs current ones in slow motion because I have too much time on my hands

That's a beautiful color match..been resisting that wbc set, but it's a good looking one for sure.

As a new SSP owner when I read this initially it freaked me out, but if I'm understanding TBP correctly it's the team set image that is being used in the series 2 card, not the SSP image. Topps would have to be completely insane to use an SSP image in series 1 as a base card in series 2 lol. But I guess Topps can and will Topps regardless so I still have some fear of this...
