How do they determine how much the card is worth? Both sites have scaling fees for expensive cards but i cant figure out how much it will cost to get it graded

Just curious, as I have never submitted cards for grading: with a high-end card like a flawless gold/10 Doncic rpa (that comes encased), do you submit the card still encased in the magnetic holder, or do you remove it from the case before grading?

Im not removing it. Why risk that. Let the professionals do it imo.

Dallas' fate is in LAC/LAL's hands. Their combination of outcomes will determine the Mavs 1st around opponent and place in the bracket.

Mavs would most assuredly prefer to be the 5 w/ Denver the 4. This would prevent a 1st round LAC matchup and a likely second round LAL matchup.

So go Lakers, go Clippers.

Mavericks facing the Nuggets is going to be bad news for Denver. I can see them flopping out of the first round. LAC is tough, they are battle-hardened and they will play dirty ball.

I dunno. We beat them twice this year. I would be more surprised if Clips took us in four or five than if we won the series, I guess is how I would put it.

Doncic dropping hard. Yesterday a 2018 revolution on card auto sold for 1400$. That card was 4000$ in december. But the whole market is going down hard. Giannis rookie prices are going down too. Even veteran cards prices went down.

This is the sad part of what happened during Covid. Modern NBA cards especially went through the roof during the lay-off ensuring a boom/bust cycle. Had Covid not happened they would have gone up nice and steady and there would not be the casualties that there will be from the boom/bust cycle where a few make serious bank but many get burnt.The hype feels well and truly gone from modern NBA cards. As people slowly return to their pre-covid lives a lot of money will flow out of the hobby.

Doncic's raw base Prizm started the 2019-20 season at $65. Had that card started the 20-21 season at $150 all would've been well. That card got close to $700 when he hit the buzzer beater in game 4 against the Clippers last year. Now they are at $300 and still falling which means confidence (hype) is gone and turning the trend around might be difficult.

Covid did not do the overall health of the hobby much good imo. A Boom/Bust cycle can take a very long time to correct.

Corrections are normal in any market, cards, stock, housing, etc. the housing market is on fire and that bubble hurts the general population even more when it corrects. The card market is definitely correcting and inflation is not doing it any favors. People are paying much more for everything, due to covid and the supply chains being disrupted. The political climate also has a negative effect because many of the people who are being demonized are also the people who spend their money on sports entertainment. These individuals are not attending sporting events and are turned off by the social justice BLM stuff. Until that is changed and sports go back to being entertaining the sport card market will continue cycle downward. Where is the bottom? Not a good place for the hobby, especially with the vast numbers of flippers and retail being destroyed for average collectors.

First off, it was a relist of a raw through Probstein so most serious buyers are going to avoid bidding on it at all. The “sharp corners” template is always hilarious but especially when it clearly has a damaged corner. As for price, it’s not that far out of line with past sales. BGS 9.5 $2.7k and PSA 9 $2.1k would place a raw somewhere around $1.5-1.8k. And those prices are from Feb, so I don’t know about your $4k sale but I’d guess that’s more the outlier.

Highest auction I see is a Probstein sale of $3383 in March. That was a BGS 9.5. Highest sale in December was $1702 for a raw copy. That card has never been $4000. That's more than a squiggly Optic auto.

Blowout has turned into this place where people willfully make things up to fit their narrative. It's next to impossible to wade through this garbage.

lebron refractor rookie cards, typical momentum cards, are still trading within same range of last two months - might have dropped 10-20 per cent

pristine refractor going for 3500-4000, seems like the biggest drops are for the very high graded cards, they carry a lot of premium

makes you wonder what is safest, a raw card during bear/sideways and graded during bull

This is not true. I sent my Mahomes auto in the case and put a note on it saying Ok to break. The only way they will not open if you have minimum grade and visually they do not see the card getting that grade. Without the note they will not open it until you grant them permission.

I've submitted a number of times in the sealed case. As long as you put a note on it you're good to go. Something like "okay to open" etc.
