Fantastic flick. I gave it 4.5 out 5 stars.

The Battery, despite being an indie film with a budget of $6k, was everything I had hoped The Dead Don't Die with it's million-dollar cast would be.

Watched "Empty Man" last night. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. It's not even close to the type of movie I thought it would be.

But I did rewatch "You're Next" afterwards. That one is worth it.

Little Joe is fantastic if you're in the mood for deadpan uneasiness over screaming terror. The minimalist soundtrack and color schemes are highly effective. It's a pretty slow-paced flick, but the runtime isn't long and it didn't feel like it dragged.

Imagine Invasion of the Body Snatchers kind of plant-based horror with 2001: A Space Odyssey pacing and aesthetics.

I gave it 4/5 stars.

Stephen King Film Festival streaming free all weekend here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxZwnVYxFT0

Rarely exhibited, these short films are mostly based on King short stories and tend to be faithful to the source material. The aspiring filmmakers are allowed use of any King story not currently optioned for only $1, hence they are called "Dollar Babies". These usually only play at festivals and the like.

It goes on tonight (5 down, 6 to go as of 7:15pm), all day & night Saturday (12 films), and daytime Sunday (7 films).
Material is usually rated R with an occasional PG-13 according to the moderators who also interview filmmakers between the movies.

The full schedule here:
https://barkerstreetcinema.ca/dollar-baby-film-festival
(All times Pacific.)

I've been having fun on the family group chat today having people pick a combination letters/numbers/colors and create random horror/sci-fi B-movie titles.

Someone either picks a "number+letter versus number+letter" or "number+letter+color":

1. Zombie
2. Dino
3. Pirate
4. Mutant
5. Teenage
6. Psychic
7. Nazi
8. Redneck
9. 50-foot tall
10. Fire-breathing
11. Atomic
12. Body-snatching
13. Prehistoric
14. Cyborg
15. Werewolf
16. Ninja

A. Pirates
B. Lawyers
C. Dragons
D. Zombies
E. Mermaids
F. Women
G. Vampires
H. Samurai
I. Slugs
J. Janitors
K. Toddlers
L. Robots
M. Demons
N. Nuns
O. Vikings
P. Strippers
Q. Holograms
R. Cowboys
S. Spiders
T. Baristas
U. Soldiers
V. Aliens
W. Babysitters
X. Rednecks
Y. Spies
Z. Cavemen

Gold: From Hollywood
Red: From the Bottom of the Sea
Blue: From Dimension X
Green: From the Bayou
Purple: From Hell
Pink: From Your Butt
Yellow: From Outer Space
Orange: From the sewers
Black: From the Produce Aisle
White: Next Door
Gray: In the Girl’s Dorm
Brown: From the Wild West
Silver: From the Future

Sure, you might end up with "Zombie Zombies versus Cyborg Robots," but you might also end up with something awesome like "Redneck Nuns versus Nazi Demons."

Shudder is now showing the sequel "In Search of Darkness, Part 2", another brisk moving 4 hour+ documentary exploration of 80's horror. The two films, edited together, would comprise an 8 hour beast, a veritable encyclopedia of the era. The producers are working on one for 80's Sci-Fi movies now.

For the reference minded, there's also available "Crystal Lake Memories" (2013) a 6+ hour doc on the Friday the 13th film series. I'd planned to watch this in two or three blocks, but ended up seeing most of it the first time through. I just have the last 45 minutes to go, covering the 2009 reboot. It's a can't miss for Jason fans.

Will "In Search of Darkness" document some of the R-rated nudity from said films?

Yes, plenty of that, language, and gore. It's an R rated affair, as the subject demands. I noticed the second one was a little less spoiler-y in terms of giving away surprise endings of certain movies profiled (possibly because the more spoiler-able titles were in the first installment and producers figured most viewers of that doc had probably seen most of the movies covered).

I will say that even though I'm long-time fan of the genre. there were movies I hadn't seen in both editions, so I've got a new little watchlist from the enterprise.

Where actual movies are concerned, Shudder's also just premiered "Fried Barry", a South African (I think) made film (in English) about a drug addict whose body is commandeered by an alien to study the human race.
Not straight horror, but quite visceral and intense, it's worth a look for something "different".

They will have their premiere of the previously-mentioned-in-thread "Psycho Goreman" later this month, and I'm looking forward to that.

Their exclusive "Creepshow" anthology (short story) series has aired 5 episodes for it's second season, and those have been pretty good. The most recent one deftly injected its character into "Night of the Living Dead", using actual footage from the Romero classic that started it all.

If you stream you might would want to check TUBI, they have a ton of B horror movies that are free. They do have commercials but the films are not edited. They have a nice selection from Full Moon Features like the Kill Joy series, Evil Bong and Puppet Master series. Then they have films like Gnome Alone and the list goes on. If you like B Movies and don't mind ads give it a try.

Watched "The Fog" (John Carpenter version. Not the hideous Smallville actor release). Far from being my first viewing but it never gets old.

Also had to do something to get this thread back on the front page. Come on people!

Been on a cult/crap kick on Shudder... going with a childhood Cinemax favorite Frankenhooker tonight. Went through Street Trash, Maniac Cop and Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama this past week.

I don't think I'll be checking out Hagazussa.

Let me know if I'm missing out, but it looks more traumatic than entertaining.

Saw Quiet Place 2 yesterday. It was my first in-theaters movie I’ve seen in 16 months and it was the perfect example of a “better to see in theaters” movie. I enjoyed it… pretty much follows the same formula as the first one.

There will probably be a 3rd but I’m not sure how much more gas will still be in the tank at that point.

Watched "A Lonely Place to Die" on Prime last night. I really enjoyed this one. I'm not sure if it qualifies as horror or suspense/thriller, but this thread being on page 3 is a damn disgrace, so here it is.

Watched Kuso because someone said it was the "Grossest" movie they had seen. Googled it and saw the same reaction. It was boring and about as gross as watching Nickelodeon. Wouldn't recommend despite having a few of my fave tv personalities like Tim Heidecker, Anders Holm, and Hannibal Buress.
