In the past, they start the submission on the day it arrives, so you shouldn't be losing any time.

Can you get more on ebay than comc or are sold prices similar? How is turnaround time? What happens when they {comc} cause damage to a card? I am considering send them 50K vintage cards from 1940-1979.

I've sold 2 cards so far.

Just had a bunch more added last night. Up to 80ish.

I think this might be a fun venture as long as I'm not losing money. Nice to clean out some of the random card boxes.

Send in 1000 and see how it goes. It would run $15k to send in 50,000 cards and you'll need to put that money in up front before they process them.

They will say you sent it in that way. They will then charge you more to add it to the site because it will need a condition note(usually a bottom left or right ding/dent).

For vintage though, the process is different since it is acceptable for them not to be mint....they will put your cards in a condition bucket which is either very subjective or downright wrong. Like a previous poster said...send in some...maybe a couple of hundred and see how it goes.

Also make sure that you do your research and see what those same cards are already priced at....some vintage commons are dirt cheap based on condition

I apologize in advance for asking COMC newbie questions that have no doubt been asked and answered many times over. I did browse for answers and if I had the stamina I'd read all 86 pages in this thread and the 224 in the above thread, but I don't. So... any help is appreciated.

I hadn't really planned to submit and sell cards on COMC, but recently transferred some e-cards and have built up a credit balance. Instead of spending it or cashing out, I thought this might be a good way to thin out my collection... especially things I just never seem to get to list on ebay.

So what sells best?

--- Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, MMA, other sports, non-sports?

*My first batch might be 500 cards. My collection is mostly football and hockey, but I have a little bit of everything. Are some categories significantly more popular than others? I expect it to be football and baseball, but I'd like to hear from those who know. Obviously I'd like to start with what sells best.

--- High-end, mid-range, low-end, junk?

*I feel like any high-end stuff I want to sell I'd rather keep on ebay, and in my possession, at least for now. It seems like "junk" isn't really worth submitting (Shipping, $0.30 to process, 20% cash out)... but please correct me if I'm wrong about that. So is there a mid-low range sweet spot for listing?

--- Autograph, relics, inserts, base cards?

*I expect autos and relics would sell... is there a good market for inserts and base cards? Sort of related to the above, seems like base cards would be tough because they might sell too low to make it worth it...?

--- Any other advice for my first batch?

Thanks again. I've been trying to figure this out for a while so any help is greatly appreciated.

Some basics...

Check to see which cards there are already a bunch of on the site...don't send those in.

Don't send in junk or base....look for numbered parallels 150 and under....autos and game used do fine...but stay away from the junk....I also try to stay away from vintage.

Tougher inserts from the 90s do well...but research what is already on the site.

Put together a bunch of $3-50 cards for your first submission. Nonsports sells pretty well. I stick mainly with baseball and nonsports. I check every single card I'm about to list and only send ones that have no cards listed under $1 on site. That way I'm mostly guaranteed to make money on them. Nothing worse than getting your cards in your account and finding out there are 27 on site starting at 34 cents.

Like they said check them and see how many/how much they're on there for already. As for me I send in everything over 50 cents but I'm a different case as I just want junk out of my house. I'm slowly going thru all my boxes and moving it to COMC. If I open a box of cards all the inserts, rookies, stars and low end hits go. It's paying for itself and giving me a nice chunk of change and most importantly it's out of my house.

I pretty much send in anything that sits around that I thought should sell for 50cents+

While you might be wrong on stuff, like I was with all my Rookie/Bowman Refractors and inserts.

But overall COMC is a great way to move cards that would normally sit in a box. It takes a while to accumulate funds but once that balance is there its kinda nice.

Side Note, Im running a sale right now haha, check it out.

Looks some answers have already been made, but I will chime in a little too. I generally make sure it's a solid $1 card before I put it in the box - check out how many are on site. If you have history points, you can see how many have sold previously as well.

When you price, make sure it is reasonable, so you don't miss out on sales. Keep an eye on your inventory and try and adjust prices a couple times a month. Staying on top of your port really helps you sell through cards.

Has anyone noticed if you change your price that they take it off eBay? This has been happening to me it's strange, so are they not able to adjust the prices?

A few days ago I knocked $10 off my Alonzo Mourning autograph, I just checked eBay and the price was changed accordingly.

Thanks to everyone for all the solid advice.

Checking the quantity and prices of what's already on comc while deciding what to send sounds key. I'll try to find some cards that there aren't too many of too cheap already.

Good thoughts on "junk" too. I'll hold off on those for now, but if it goes well and I build up a balance it might be the right place to dump them eventually.

I plan to set reasonable prices, since I want to move this stuff. I've seen some overpriced stuff on comc so I assume many are just looking for offers. I tried to be reasonable with prices on the e-card stuff I've listed there. I get lots of offers at 50% or less, so I guess that's common. But I was pleasantly surprised at how fast things sold, so I'm looking forward to adding to my inventory.

Thanks again for all the help. I'll have to stay up on this thread now.

@ejs - in my experience, it really isn't worth sending the "junk" into COMC. Since you already sell on eBay, you'd be much better off putting similar cards into group lots and selling those on eBay than submitting the cards to COMC.

For example, if you have 100 cards where the lowest COMC price is 50 cents, you might submit them to COMC, pay $30 processing, wait many weeks for them to hit your account, maybe sell a few here and there for 35 to 50 cents each. Then, as time goes on, other people are submitting the same cards, and the market price goes to 30 cents, 25 cents, 15 cents. You'll be lucky if after 5 years, you get your submission fee back.

OTOH, you could have taken those 100 cards, listed them on eBay for some price like $25 to $35 for the lot, maybe taken an offer for $20 to $25 and be done with them.

Sometimes repricing a card triggers it to get listed on ebay.

OK, so...first cards populated right after July 4th and 1st sale was July 8th.

Year Total Sales # Sold
2017 $239.91 123

It's really interesting what's sold (obvious stuff like well priced Michael Jordan/Ben Simmons/Mike Trout has gone fast...but I've also sold a bunch of early 90s Classic & Signature Rookies stuff)

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed to this thread...some great advice (although NONE of the non-sports stuff I've got has sold or even gotten an offer)

How do you sell a port? I'm looking to dump what I have for now and restart again fresh in a month or two.
