Unless Judge hits 3 HRs every game and leads the Yankees to the playoffs.

The timeline is so crazy.

July 26th, in the heat of the trade market with the deadline looming, the Angels barely have a shot at a Wild Card spot. Wild speculation of trade scenarios for Ohtani that could benefit the Angels.

After winning both ends of a doubleheader on July 27th, the Angels pulled Ohtani off the trade market. Still on the outside of the Wild Card chase.

There were murmurs after Ohtani's August 3th start that something seemed off. His next start on the 9th something was off. The Angels skip his next start.

August 23rd, cements the legacy of Ohtani's time in Anaheim. Another losing season, another missed Playoffs, and another series of stars on the IL.

The big picture is even crazier.

The 2023 free agency picture shifts entirely.

The crazy offers possibly get halved, or far more incentivized. The likelihood of a Seattle signing seems to rise. The crazy offer from the Mets that would force an overpay by the Dodgers seems to diminish.

Does Ohtani wait for surgery until he signs with another team so the new team has complete input and monitoring...delaying his potential start as a bat only season in 2024?

1 year contract on the table? 45 million?

I mean he could still get around 300m as just a hitter, maybe a bit less than the judge contract, but ohtani is way more marketable.

Would love to see the ticket sale splits for games he pitched versus games he DH'd.

He's already a revolutionary player, what are you talking about? He's absolutely changed the game and did things people thought were not possible.

This is terrible, loved Ohtani and what he did for the game. SIAP, could he just take a year off from pitching and let it heal and focus on DH?

If ohtani stops pitching he could focus all his strength and energy on just hitting and be even better!

If he stops pitching...what does he have to do for the rest of his career in order to walk into the HOF?
He's at right around 32 WAR now in both systems. Let's say he has something like 5 more years as a batter averaging 5 batting WAR - so five more seasons roughly the equal to the average of the last three as a batter. He'd be light on career WAR and overall accumulation on stats, but that's easily a HOF player. That's 10 WAR north of someone like Dale Murphy, done in this context without the benefit of a decline phase. He's essentially Sandy Koufax in this scenario.

So did Aaron Judge.

and Mark McGwire.

And Cal Ripken,

And Roger Maris.

Baseball is full of those stat lines and achievements that let you filter for things that 'have never been done before' in a variety of ways. I hope he comes back and hits another 350 Home Runs and wins another 50 games in his career. But totaling 171 Home Runs and 38 wins in your 20s while having the same post season totals as I do doesn't put you into the same category as Ruth, Mays, Cobb, Bonds, etc.

Hopefully he holds up enough to get there one day, though.

What do you think is more impressive?

Shohei Pitching/Hitting, or
Bo Jackson (and Deion, Brian Jordan) playing both Baseball and Football?

What Bo did in the late 80s was unprecedented at the time.

At this rate,

He might as well continue to DH and become a HOF Closer.

He will still rack up the Hits and get the Saves and into the record books. Diaz got paid, so he can still make his 50 mil a year.

You saw how he closed out Trout at WBC, do that. 3-4 innings a week.

You don't need to be Ruth, Mays, or Bonds to be a revolutionary player.

Im praying the Padres are paying attention. Once they're out of contention next year by the deadline, they trade Soto. Just so he can get out of that hell hole sooner. He isn't signing w/ them longterm.

Ohtani's MLB stats....

Win–loss record
38–19
Earned run average
3.02
Strikeouts
606
Batting average
.274
Home runs
170
Runs batted in
431

Solid stats but if he retired today, those are not HOF stats.
