Smith will start the year on the DL with a strained flexor mass muscle

I this a joke or are you being serious (regarding the most important player part)?

Absolutely, 100% dead serious. He was the only guy that couldn't be replaced without a serious drop off in production.

Now, what will happen is that Tazawa / Uehara get pumped up to important set up rolls, and a guy like Robbie Ross Jr has to pitch the 6th when Porcello or Kelly are inevitably pulled early. Ross should NEVER be i when the game is within 7 runs ... but now he has to be.

And it likely pushes Matt Barnes into the pen. A disaster; dammit.

I know he is important, but it's not like he was the closet. Tazawa and Uehara have pitched in every relief role possible so it doesn't matter what inning they pitch in. Barnes has been outstanding in spring thus far (I know it is only ST), and the pen can't be worse than it was last year. I think E-rod is a much bigger loss. Carson Smith is like 9th on biggest losses in my opinion. I think you're over valuing the importance of a 6-7th inning guy.

Both losses suck equally for me right now. Luckily they seem to both be very short term.

They both suck for sure. The last news I was wanting to hear was someone getting injured.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pat Light gets innings in the bigs while Carson is out.

Joe Kelly with another quality start today, even though it's just spring training it's still a positive performance for the starting pitching heading into the regular season.

Pablo out with back stiffness... Why is that not surprising.

Atleast Shaw and Holt are solid options at 3B.

I will never understand this, we're really gunna use Wright and Kelly? Whats even the point of signing Price. The closer Opening Day gets the worse and worse I feel about this team. That being said should this season be a wash how long until Farrell is gone? My best guess is Memorial Day

Kelly has been good, I like seeing him in the starting rotation...

Kelly is the same story every single year, he looks decent now but until he shows more than 9 starts and a Spring Training. But he always goes like 4 innings and than gives up 5 runs in the 5th

The post-all star game rotation is likely to be Price / Buccholz / Rodriguez / Kelly / Owens. For now, Henry needs to find his delivery (which he has not in 10 innings so far) and Kelly has looked pretty solid.

The guy not mentioned that might break this teams back is Porcello. He has looked as awful as he did last year and his velocity isn't going to get better. He's owed a fortune; that will buy him more time than he deserves ...

It's a strong rotation, if the Sox hit the post-season, ERod will be good because his innings will be down and w/ health, you'll have a strong 1-2-3 with what figures to be a top AL offense. For now though, you just have to suck up every start from Rick (and hold your breath from the ones from Joe).
