That "prospect-mania" is getting a good wake up call with Witt, Jrod, Abrams, Tork, Stott all stinking the place up and witnessing substantial declines price-wise. If anything, more money should be shifting from prospects to established, young superstars like Soto.

A reminder that Mike Trout was pretty mediocre his first stretch of MLB games. Prospecting to unload in the 36 hours between their call up and them being 1 for 8 is a bit different than actually doing a bit of scouting and buying in on a player.

You have to be vetted to get into it, it’s very prestigious to say the least. All kinds of top secret information coming in so fast you have to turn off your alerts. It’s changed my life and when I feel like I’m going to break, the group chat always helps me re-center and make more poor choices.

The nature of this hobby has been speculative since the junk was era (Brien Taylor, Todd Van Poppel, Kevin Maas, Gregg Jefferies) and before, and that's not going to change. Prospecting is the most extreme form of speculation, and prospecting in minor leaguers is exclusive to baseball among the 4 major American sports.

Hobbyists in all the sports chase RCs, and Bowman 1st autos are just another form of an RC that are now the true ultimate cards of any given player to own/chase. That's not going to change anytime soon. I doubt it changes in either of our lifetimes.

It's a question of degree at this point. Prospects are always going to be overvalued for speculation/adrenaline reasons, but the extent of the differential and the raw dollar amounts involved are so much higher than historically that it feels like there has to be a correction.
