Big time sales night across sports at Fanatics.

LeBron 2013 Kaboom PSA 10 did $43k
Tatum Prizm Gold 9.5 did $84k
Ohtani BC Gold did 10/10 $200k
Jordan 86 Fleer PSA 10 back over $200k
Jeter 1993 PSA PSA 10 did $320k
Kyrie 2012 Prizm Gold did $32k
And of course the Skenes did $1.1MM and Wemby $528k

I thought the worst performer by far was high end Luka. His 2023 Prizm Black 1/1 only did $43k, and his 2017 NT RPA GOLD PSA 9/10 did just $144k. I thought that card would be over where a Prizm Gold would go for, but instead it did $200k less than the PSA 10 that sold last month.

Crypto is higher than it was a year ago, makes sense.

Seems like an overly simplistic explanation when you compare to crypto 1 month ago or 3 months ago.

Also the international crypto guys are starting to realize they just put their assets into a complete drain with the Donald and Melania issuings and their like. Mixing crypto and politics, oops. Well, there's always the basketball card.

When people who invest in alternative assets feel wealthier, they spend more money on risky assets like cards.

Maybe. Odd they would have picked up their card buying after how much it's sold off over the past few months.

Sell low, buy high - that’s the mentality or your retail investor.

People want to own things that they feel are going up in price.

The only strict investment play I see is the Kyrie gold /10 for 23k. Mavs looked pretty good the other night and I would never discount a Kidd-coached team. Luka fanbase departing helps.

Wow. Never thought a Kaboom would get close to 50k, even a LeBron PSA 10. But how does it make sense when a Kobe went for under 20k?

Shai underperformed the most to me

Highest sale was an NT RPA /99 PSA 10 for $114k? And the 1/1 White Sparkle Prizm Auto only went for $38.4k? Black prizm 1/1 2023 went for $18.6k as well

Not a lot of hype for the presumptive MVP

I can see that.

The MJs, LeBrons, Ohtanis of the world did well last night.

Also, landmark sets like 2012 Prizm and 2013 Kaboom did well.

There seems to be some hesitancy spending big money of guys without MVPs or Championships right now.

I assume its just availability. A LeBron PSA 10 hasn't shown up in a long time.

At the high end it's less about comps and becomes more of a question of "Will I be able to get this card again if I pass on it now". It really changes the whole market dynamic when people "need" a card.

You all missed perhaps the most important sale of the week - maybe the tulip infliction point:

Cheetozard" - Pokemon Charizard-Shaped Cheeto - 3"

Final Price:
$87,840 w/ Buyer’s Premium
$72,000 Winning Bid

How much shill bidding is on the Fanatics site? Now would be the time to do it. Fanatics wants the publicity of "high realized prices".

I still think there's a huge fall to come from a lot of modern cards.

As soon as Fanatics starts bringing out new and shiny quality sets, there will be so much product out.

Total oversupply coming.

The cream will always rise to the top of course.

That's what is consistently happening, and has been happening for as long as there's been a card market.

I was expecting someone to come in a counter my case for a strong night by pointing out that cards of Zion, Trae, Embiid, etc are way down. But that's the nature of beast. Guys that don't meet built in expectations have values that drop of the face of the earth. But on the other side, the best stuff continues to rise over time.

Exactly.

Which is why I think it would be wose to get out now if you're holding a lot of $500 - $1000 Autos of players that haven't cemented a legit legacy.

The amount of garbage selling in that range or even more is wild.

I'd feel pretty safe spending $20k or more on Jordan, LeBron, Kobe or Steph (not that I'm in that crowd), but anyone else is shaky ground. Unless it's key 90s

For players that look like they've stalled/capped out in their potential trajectory, you're right (Trae Young is a great example of this)

For others that may still be ascending, not as much

I've started to consider moving all of my Kabooms. Never thought they would get that high . I just keep wondering if there's still some room at the top, they've been popular for a while but the price keeps going up.

Are Kabooms really nice in hand? Kind of like Galactics, a card I have never really come across in real life.

Or are they just a currency substitute.

Why is the cast of Kabooms so static? I have never seen one of a player I would consider paying bucks for, after Kobe, maybe Lillard.

A 2013 Lebron Kaboom BGS 9 just sold for 7.5k on eBay auction last night. Incredible. Kabooms man. Long term play on those are so, so safe.

Just like early Silver Prizms.

Only difference is you can spot a Kaboom from across the room. They're so identifiable.

The trading card market in Europe has continued to grow post-pandemic and Fanatics are clearly serious in growing the collector base over here.

Five years ago there were no card shows/fairs in the United Kingdom. Literally zero. I went to the first one that took place in a small gym on the outskirts of London in July 2021. Four years later and there are shows pretty much every weekend in towns and cities around the country. That London show has moved twice to larger venues and now runs over three days, four times a year.

Pokemon/TCG has continued to grow and is pulling in children in left right & center. I run & own a record shop in a small town (90,000 people) and three TCG shops have opened up in the town in the last couple of years. The Pokemon shop opposite me seems to be doing very well and the broader collectables space continues to grow; something I have seen with the changing customer base I see in my shop.

Fanatics Collectables recently announced they are opening a large European flagship store on Regent Street (which is one of the prime retail spaces) in London in the Spring, so they are certainly putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to growing the international collector base. I always thought that as a European based business, Panini was best placed to expand things in Europe when they grabbed the licenses 15/16 years ago, but it never really happened.

There might be enough demand to meet the Fanatics supply plans, if they get things right.
