I wonder if we'll see a similar change in his pitching where he's not constantly in a situation where he might be the only offense for the game when he's on the bump. Less stress makes for a happier and higher performing Shohei?
I think so, but he was truly magnificent with RISP so it may take him a while to adjust. Not many pitchers can dial it to triple digits with a true east to west sweeper. Just a freak of nature.

Can’t wait. Just glad there’s some postseason baseball for him.

The craziest thing to me is his best season was probably 2022, the one time (post-COVID) he DIDN'T win the MVP.

I always think I'm immune to FOMO but then Ohtani goes 50/50 and I spend more money on him this past week than I have the rest of the entire season (still substantially less than I spent last off-season so I haven't completely lost the plot).

Judge had an amazing year that year, but I'd rather have an ace pitcher just because they are hard to come by. We've all seen that this year with the Dodgers and everybody being on the IL. That year specifically with the Angels, it seemed like every pitcher would lose and then when Ohtani started, he would stop a losing streak.

At one point in 2022, I remember his ERA+ was over 300 and also had a 32+ inning scoreless streak. He was also 3-1 with 1 no decision, 1.21 ERA, 45 strikeouts(13.65 k/9), 0.910 WHIP against the World series champ Astros that year......

Might not he the best place to ask. But I want to get a nice Babe Ruth card to put next to my Ohtani rookie. Are there any dual Ohtani Ruth cards with stats or something?

There are a few dual cards, but I don't think any of them have any kind of extensive stats. Maybe a sentence for each.

First of all, I 100% this doesn’t happen as I’ve got most of my card money in Shohei. However, look at the dodgers track record of late in terms of their pitchers. LOTS of injuries. Do we think this could be a potential concern? Do they need to let Prior go and get someone better. Prior obviating couldn’t avoid the injury bug himself…

I sold a bunch of Ohtani cards this spring thinking I'd be able to buy them back cheaper if I wanted to after a season of "only" being a DH.

I'll never underestimate the unicorn again.

I fall in the same boat. Was hoping for some great off season deals but his dip will be small at best. To be fair nobody could have predicted the first DH MVP and 50/50 season, but you know... Ohtani just doing impossible things always seems to happen.

Your plan would have worked if you sold during peak off season/spring training....and then bought during the middle of the season when prices were way down.

When everyone was going ape for the 50/50 tickets (that mostly turned out to be souvenir cashgrabs from the Marlins) I sought out a different important ticket in Ohtani history - 1st MLB HR:

Well the plan was to buy in the off-season after the DH year (when, if he had a respectable but not historical hitting season, prices would likely have been even lower).

Your plan was sound. Prices truly went nuts between 40/40 and 50/50 and pricing almost never spikes this late in the year.

There will be some steals during the sleepy Holiday season so you just have to stay locked and loaded.

I'm not sure how much Ohtani buying I'll be doing this off-season to be honest.

I finally got around to doing a full inventory and valuation of my graded PC last weekend and Ohtani is slightly more than 40% of the total value and that's without the cards I have on the way in the mail.

That being said, if I'm at a card show and the right card is in a dealer's showcase and he's willing to make me a deal..... I'm jumping on it!

I think it is very hard to find deals right now! I have adjusted up the prices I am willing to pay as I think Ohtani's RC card floor has been raised up.

I imagine we see a 20% dip in the off season on low and medium end RC...but I don't think it will go down 40% as in years past due to his performance this year.

How are others on here adjusting their buying strategy? Anyone think there is going to be a big discount on Ohtani RC in the off season?

I bought a rookie card last week. But mine also wasn’t an auto but for a non auto it’s on the higher end. I think you just have to look out for a deal and be willing to message the seller and work something out. It’s what I did

My recent pickups have all been post-2013 NBP cards, non rookie parallels and that ticket I posted earlier.

I find the prices on those haven't gone as insane as his rookies (yet).

EDIT: I did TRY to buy a rookie parallel on MySlabs but the seller cancelled the deal and claimed he sold it the day prior (checked eBay and it didn't sell there so he was probably foolin')

I've seen one seller with quantities of that ticket at 100 per.
