I really just try to look at this from the perspective of fandom and the reason we collect in the first place and at the end of the day it's mostly about the memories and the moments these guys create that stay with us. Just surmising Shohei will create a lot of memories going forward with his current team and people will want to hold on to that through the cards and memorabilia they collect.

That's 21 years of stats compared to 7 though...

I understand that and I love Ohtani but he would have to have the best 14 years of his career to pass Ruth

How do Sho's top 3 seasons match up with Babe's top 3?

He would also need to invent a Time Machine and hit against the worst competition in the history of Major League Baseball.

Ohtani would have to put up 150 more war, hit around 530 more home runs and win 4 World Series championships to be better than Ruth. That’s just how the baseball stats line up

If he could hit against plumbers tossing 80 MPH fastballs he'd have it done in 5 years.

I like it when Shohei plays baseball and does good

There's no need to pump Babe Ruth. His cards are already more expensive than Shohei's.

Ohtani just has to be the GOAT of his generation in order for his cards to continue having hobby appeal. No one was alive when Ruth played, and the sport is totally different now to make any real comparison anyway.

The thing that makes them most similar is that they were both quality pitchers and hitters, and did things no one ever saw (or even thought possible) before. IMO, a couple more seasons of pitching/hitting, a couple more MVP awards, and a World Series ring will get Ohtani firmly into the ‘legendary’ player category.

I honestly think he’s already there as a legendary player. The way he is able to be a top 5 batter and still be a great pitcher is something that hasn’t been seen in 100 years of the sport. He’s already up there as one of the greatest ever just from the two way player dynamic

One thing people never seem to mention when glazing Ruth is that he was really only an amazing pitcher and hitter at the same time for two seasons (18 and 19). Before 18 he really wasn't a great hitter and after 19 he only pitched a total of 31 innings total.

All that being said, Ruth was, is and will always be a GOAT.

Only player with 3 MVP's in 4 years is Bonds. If Ohtani pitches next year (and any subsequent years) with even 35ish HR's and a decent W/L/ERA, it'll be tough to beat him unless people get bored of it.

I mean..I would say if he hits even just 25 HR and is a good not great pitcher he should be MVP every season.

Same. Its fun to compare but the game was completely different with different circumstances. I just like to appreciate that they both transcended the sport.

A wise man once said, the "R" in WAR from the turn of the 20th century was an orphan with a loaf of bread. Apples to oranges comparing Ruth to Ohtani from that perspective, but Ruth changed the game and brought a whole new audience to it. Ohtani can and is having that same impact today.

Is anyone aware of the 2018 Gypsy Queen Auto Black 1/1 being pulled yet? I can't find anything after searching for past hour.

So who thinks Ohtani's cards will actually take a dip in the offseason, or are the current prices as good as it gets?
