How much of that Trout money is going to shift over to Bryce Harper now?

It is quirky that all the reasons cited for Trout being meh also apply nearly exactly to Nolan Ryan and Ken Griffey Jr, whom Trout is frequently compared to.

At less than one-fifth the buy-in price, which future HOFer is a better value?

I looked up “canttakealossbros” in the dictionary and there was a picture of Trout’s rookie card as an example of the definition.

I don’t remember Nolan Ryan having extensive injury issues

From 2001 through 2008 Lance Berkman statistically is nearly identical to Mike Trout 2012 through 2019.

Berkman

.303 BA .417 OBA .564 SLG .980 OPS 1322 Hits 298 2B 263 HR 584 Extra Base Hits 61 SB

Trout

.306 BA .421 OBA .587 SLG 1.008 OPS 1353 Hits 254 2B 297 HR 599 Extra Base Hits 197 SB

Berkman had 4 top 5 MVP finishes during that period. The only year Mike Trout would have a chance at an MVP if he played at his peak during 2001-2008 would be 2007.

3 MVP's is an amazing accomplishment in any era, but some eras are much stronger than others. They are not all the same. Trout definitely benefited from playing during a period where he did not have much competition.

2014

1. Mike Trout
2. Victor Martinez
3. Michael Brantly

2016

1. Mike Trout
2. Mookie Betts
3. Jose Altuve

2019

1. Mike Trout
2. Alex Bregman
3. Marcus Semien

Lance Berkman had guys like Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Albert Pujols, and Chipper Jones are in competition yearly for the award.

Trout's MVP's are similar to those of Dale Murphy. There is nothing much that stands out about them, with the exception of the fact that he won them.

One other Dale Murphy comparison.

Age 33 Dale Murphy .228 20 HR 1.6 WAR

Age 33 Mike Trout .231 20 HR 1.1 WAR

It almost seems like Rendon's attitude toward playing baseball finally rubbed off on him....

Trout's WAR calculations continue to amaze me how does this make sense:

2025 Seasons

Trout--88 hits, 12 2B, 20 HR, 54 RBI, 77 BB, .230 BA = 1.1 WAR

Adell--110 hits, 17 2B, 33 HR, 90 RBI, 30 BB, .241 BA = 1.4 WAR

Something majorly wrong here and it's clear WAR does not calculate clutchness of hits as Adell has had a lot this season and with runners in scoring position and most of Trout's hits and walks come when nothing is on the line and nobody on base. I understand there is a WAR positional adjustment argument and OBP is key in WAR I guess but if their WAR is this close simply due to position or the difference in walks then WAR continues to appear beyond flawed as with my baseball watching eyes Adell has been a much greater contributor this year.

However the last time I questioned anything Trout WAR related in a separate WAR thread and questioned his best season stats to some Willie Mays stats and why Trout's WAR was so much higher I was met with a response that Mike Trout would have hit 100 home runs a season if he played in the 60s.

This will no doubt get me labeled a hater by the heavy Trout update holders. I have just never been able to figure out why some of his good but not anywhere close to all time great seasons resulted in such high WAR numbers.

I'm still a fan!

Disappointed? Sure. Bag holder? Nope. Hopeful for 2026? Yep.

The haters aren't wrong - it's been another stinker of a year. Baseball is hard
