The angels need to make the hard decision. He has zero incentive to adjust his game on a bad team and with all that money coming in.

They should put him on waivers and see who will take that contract straight up, like what the Red Sox did with manny Ramirez. You’re never going to get back in a trade what he’s “worth” in a trade, especially if you have to eat money anyway to move him.

I think he has too many years left on his contract to do that move. At least he made it to 400 ABs this year and the Angels can hope with him entering 2026 as full time DH that he has a shot at 500+ ABs. His power might be diminished but he can reinvent himself a bit.

I feel like he's been playing through some nagging injury but wanted to rack up the games played as some kind of moral victory for the season, so he's keep plugging away each day. Would explain his sudden dip in productivity the 2nd half of summer.

Agreed. He probably is still playing through some pain from the knee injury earlier in the year. There was a time when they were saying he would go back to RF but that never happened. Likely because they felt he never got back to 100% and didn’t want to risk another longterm IL stint.

Default I thought 500 HRs was a lock

I posted a while back that 500 home runs was a sure thing.

It looks like I could be wrong. He's a shell of himself right now. He went
from an all time great to great for a ten year stretch.

He has T5 Costovertebral Dysfunction. That's never going away, he is always going to be in some kind of pain playing baseball.

They always have a pit at DH. They don't need another, overpaid pit at DH.

Maybe the aura of Fenway and some Boston clam chowda' would reinvigorate his career (probably not).

He can replace Schwarber for basically the same cost. Cuz schwarbs is getting paid no matter what this year.

So what you are saying is that the Phillies should replace the 2025 runner up MVP, 50+ home run hitter, and the guy who is magical in the postseason for Mike Trout because they are the same cost?

the problem is that trout doesnt want new scenery. he has had multiple chances to get new scenery and has declined every time. he is very happy right where he is.

winning is not and has never been his number one priority

I'm not sure how you could look at his last couple of seasons and how many games he missed, paired with the fact he's in his mid-30s now and still hasn't reached 400 home runs, and conclude that 500 home runs was a sure thing.

No team is gonna want him if he's only hitting .233/.367/.419 while DHing full time and getting paid good money.

He would have to be released or traded for nothing of value and his contract paid by the Angels.

that is true now, but he had chances to move when he was a great player. could have gone anywhere he chose during free agency, but did not want too. there were also years that he could have forced a trade and he had no interest

I dont blame him for staying where he is comfortable, but I also know that comfort/familiarity is more important to him than winning.

i wonder if Judge will pass trout in career home runs next season or the year after?

in the last 3 seasons trout has 49, judge has 141.

trout is currently 38 home runs ahead

I didn't look at just the last couple seasons as my barometer on what he might
be able to achieve. I looked at the length on the years remaining on his contract
and figured even with more injuries he could muster up 100 home runs in
the five plus years remaining on his contract. He'll then get a chance with
another MLB squad for a year or so which could get him 20 or so home runs.

I figured he'd drop enough bombs to hit the mark. Not looking so good now.
I guess his lingering health issues will continue to erode his play.

I wonder if Harper finishes with more homers than Trout?
