Default Donruss Americana Sneak Peek: Part II

Donruss Americana Sneak Peek: Part II

Second in a Four-Part Series
Donruss officials have been beside themselves since the first mention was made of something called "Donruss Americana" way back in the summer. Over the course of the next three weeks every Wednesday exclusively through www.beckett.com you'll start to understand exactly why they've been so excited.

Beckett.com visitors will receive the rare first glimpses of Donruss' history-soaked new product that's chock full of pop culture luminaries, actors, entertainers and a sampling of sports icons.

This week, Donruss sheds some light on the unparalleled roster of screen legends featured in the product, which releases Jan. 9.

The obvious timeless brilliance of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Marlon Brando and Jimmy Stewart (all four of whom are featured prominently in Americana) is offset by a host of more contemporary greats such as John Travolta, Burt Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. The Americana checklist is a veritable Who's Who of Hollywood's elite, most of whom are making their first trading card appearances ever.

"Every name that's mentioned is an icon in Americna history," says Donruss marketing director Scott Prusha. "Monroe, James Dean, Marlon Brando. They're icons. The opportunity to create their first trading cards is incredibly unique and we're incredibly excited.

"These are arguably the most collected figures in the world. To be able to provide this huge collector base with these types of items is remarkable. To not have trading cards and memorabilia cards and cut autograph cards for all this time and now having them is truly amazing."

Among the history-making memorabilia Donruss has slated for inclusion in the product are:
* A wool evening shawl accented with silver beads and pearls worn my Monroe
* A pink and red undershirt Ashley Judd wore in the movie "Come Early Morning"
* The military uniform Brando wore in the 1964 film "Bedtime Story"
* Memorabilia from Travolta that was worn while making the movie "Primary Colors"
* A gray sports coat worn my Jackie Gleason during the 1963 film "Papa's Delicate Condition"
* An Errol Flynn-worn uniform from the 1948 film "Silver River"

For more information on Donruss Americana, due out in January, check out the company's special website devoted to the product.
