Devers just hit a grand slam against the Yanks.

Surely this will qualify as worthy!

Topps better do a Japanese version as well!!!

Snarkiness aside, they really should do another Lorenzen card. That hitting pitcher is legit!!

The Reds had a club record 18 strikeouts (in a 9 inning game) by their pitchers today as well. Reds lead the majors in grand slams too (8).

He needs another RC card as well. He has one Topps Now RC (#97) so far this season!

Is Lorenzen the first pitcher in MLB history to hit a pinch hit Grand Slam home run?

All right, just checked an old SABR article from 1972, and up to that point, 5 pitchers hit pinch hit GS HRs. Ironically, the very first pinch hit GS in MLB history (1902) was hit by a pitcher (Mike O'Neill).

"It is also noted that no less than five pitchers have come through with pinch, slams. In addition to O'Neill, there was Schoolboy Rowe, Early Wynn, Zeb Eaton, and Tommy Byrne."

https://sabr.org/research/dream-hit-pinch-grand-slam

***First pitcher since Tommy Byrne - 1953***

Other than fewer cards, what do you think would be a good improvement?

Vince getting nailed in the right arm, (his pitching arm) on a comebacker then picking up the ball with his left and firing a bullet to first for the out. Was gutsy

Heh, can't wait!!

Also (from Stat by STATS)...

"Michael Lorenzen of the @Reds is the first pitcher to hit a pinch-hit grand slam since Tommy Byrne of the White Sox on May 16, 1953 at NYY.

The Reds are also the first team in MLB history to have 2 different pitchers hit grand slams in the same month."

You would think this is a guaranteed card tomorrow, right?

Hell of a play--accurate throw with his left arm and having that focus after being nailed like that to complete the play. The Nats' broadcast team was very complimentary and said it was one of the most impressive play they've seen.

I’m thinking we get in-set all time SP, today. I get many thinking this is doom and gloom for the brand but MLS has been functioning at these low levels since day one. I believe the profit margins are pretty high on these that it will carry on...for a very long time, if not forever (like the flagship)…value of your older cards is the biggest issue many have because it’s difficult to make money on these. They were not produced to make you money...they were printed for your enjoyment. They still sell at $3.99 plus almost always and yes you may have to wait days, weeks months or even years to get your money back on many of these lightly bought cards. So I don’t see a reason for all the doom and gloom. By constantly predicting doom and gloom you scare away other collectors and you can drive the brand into the ground, Now or Living more so then any other card set as smart people do their research and if all you see is doom and gloom you will take your collecting dollars elsewhere. Basically WE (all of us) are selling this product (unless of course like some you never buy these and come in here to torch the product for kicks). If you owned a storefront wouldn’t you say the positive things about the set first?

#1 Beautiful card’s with few condition issues
#2 They capturer all the great things that happen each day...even some obscure ones
#3 They are somewhat limited, especially the odd ball ones
#4 Some have seen amazing returns
#5 Most (base cards) if not all would sell today at traditional auction for the price you paid
#6 You get autographs and relics from the actual games played...yes at a premium but just look at (some of them).
#7 You get zero commons that you don’t want.

Okay, add to the list. Yes the biggest detractor is it’s a set collector’s nightmare and that could be spun as a positive.

My guess is that MLB wouldn't let Topps make that card today because it had an injury attached to the play. That is something the MLB frowns upon showing on a card that is meant to last forever. Topps has already pissed off a previous player by just showing his face (but right after he was injured)...

They ARE produced to make money if they are selling you 20 for 3.99 each.
If there were no bulk rates, they would sell on Topps.com for 9.99 each. So selling for 3.99 is cause for concern,
I would love to see a print run for one day, if they did not sell any at bulk rate.
