Wanting to buy for son

My son was born this past October and I would like to purchase him something each Christmas/birthday related to coins or gold/silver. I of course am looking at this as an investment for him. I do not know anything about coins or currency but would like to keep it simple? I am thinking around $100 and any pointers would be helpful as I would like him to have them when he turns 18 or 21 etc and be able to do what he wants with them. Thanks

Either a graded Morgan silver dollar or how about 1 or 2 of these 1 gram .999 gold bars, they look cool.

Not sure what they cost these days, but how about a Proof DCAM American Silver Eagle each year? Maybe that and a regular one.

Thank you for the input. Where should I purchase from? I ran across that Apmex site earlier but I don't know if their are better prices on ebay or other places.
