2002 SP Legendary Cuts grading issue
Submitted this to PSA for grading at the beginning of September. In addition to the turnaround time being double what was stated, I was dismayed to find that the card received an N9 "no grade."
When I contacted PSA, the explanation for an N9 no-grade was that "based on signature" they "weren't comfortable putting it into a PSA holder". When I asked if that meant that the signature wasn't authentic, they said they "wouldn't go that far to say that it wasn't, just that they weren't comfortable putting it into a PSA holder." Anyone else have this issue with a manufacturer-backed, post 1998 auto card? It's not like other examples of this card haven't been graded by PSA either. The pop report indicates that there are two others previously graded. Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by mattd763; 09-30-2017 at 10:16 AM. |

My guess is the real experts moved on to other jobs and when they don't feel comfortable PSA just doesn't know if its real or not because they don't know. You would think they would look up other examples of the auto...

Wow that's just dumb. Personally I think it would look great in a BGS case.

Google Charles Lindbergh (spelling?) psa case. That should be your answer.

If you think this is a problem just wait until the new Panini Cuts product comes out and cards are sent in to to be graded
Fakes all over this product...the preview sheet alone has multiple fakes on it |

Damn I love that card! I need it for my set but obviously its PC.
That's really interesting what PSA said. Don't quote me on this, but I've followed this set for quite some time and I feel like I remember something about Upper Deck using PSA in some capacity to authenticate the signatures they used for their early-2000s cut sets (2001 UD Legends Legendary Cuts, 2001 UD Rookie F/X Legendary Cuts, and 2002 SP Legendary Cuts). I could be completely wrong, but that rings a bell. Also, I've never heard of or even seen any questionably authentic autos of any cuts from this set. The Arnie you have above looks exactly like all of his other "certified" autos on the market, so not sure what PSA's issue is. Maybe like someone said above, their best and brightest authenticators have moved on and Arnie Herber's signature is fairly rare, so maybe they just can't give a solid opinion....but then again, I didn't think they were going out of their way to authenticate autographs from pack-pulled cards from 2002...

Looks juts like every Herber auto I have seen. I collect HOFers. And it looks just like this cut that is so conveniently in a PSA case. They shafted you Bro. |

http://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=2341577 So you remembered correctly, just a little off in the timeline. These 2002 cuts maybe or maybe not have been certified by someone when UD got them |
