It sold for 1299 because it was priced at 1299. If I list one of my cases for 1199 it will sell for 1199. That doesn't mean the market is dropping.

Giving your top customers a good deal, however, is not part of that conversation IMO.
Maybe not the best choice of words, however, selling a box at OVER 50% more just because i'm not a regular customer is outrageous.

Well, if you listed a case at 1499 and it sold does that mean that the market is rising?

Depends. If all the cases priced lower than mine sold, and my 1499 was the next lowest and sold, then you'd suspect the market is certainly better than 1200-1400. If the next lowest sells at 1550, and then 1600....of course you'd have evidence of a strong market. But if someone bought mine at 1499 while other cheaper ones were still available, then I'd assume they were just more comfortable with my feedback, or maybe lived closer to me and was hoping for a quicker ship time.

It's a bit different when someone prices below market because those cases will most certainly sell no matter what.

I don't understand because you make no sense. As I and others are trying to explain to you, if my H customer from the last 15 years wants six boxes of H in 2018, he's getting them for $75.00. If a different customer comes in that i have never seen before and wants six boxes, he's getting them at $125.00. Why is that so hard to get?

because a $50 discount is absurd, that is why it makes no sense.

10-15 a box ok, but FIFTY? come on now.

No one forces you or anyone else to pay more for baseball cards than you deem acceptable. As long as nothing is being misrepresented to you to induce you to buy from a particular seller, and as long as there’s no other legal infirmity in a transaction (such as an unlawful discriminatory motive), what that person makes selling to you vs what they made selling to someone else (and why they sold to someone else for a different price than you) is really none of your concern.

And there’s certainly nothing wrong with shop owners rewarding longtime, loyal customers in the manners generally being discussed here. Also wouldn’t be anything wrong with a shop owner, for example, cutting a break to a kid vs an adult if they just personally wanted to do that.

Their stuff, their rules, so long as they aren’t somehow breaking the law. If you don’t like the price offered to you, then don’t buy from that person/business.

It is not absurd. $75 is full retail. That's my customer's price. But a fly by nighter who just wants a hot product is going to pay market price. I wouldn't care if it was $75 vs. $200 - whatever the market is.

Ah ... my statement was not restrictive enough. Obviously those would be issues. I simply meant in the arena of pricing.

Maybe it helps to look at it as the price is $125 across the board but the LCS owner gives a customer loyalty discount making the cost $75 for good customers. Either loyally support your local business, shop else where or pay $125/box.

My LCS which I used to work at usually gives me 10-15 dollars off, on stuff that's hot he will give a significant discount on 1-2 boxes but only the 10-15 dollars off on the rest. It's a reward for being a regular but allows him to maximize his profit.

Didn't you just post that you were in at $96 a box? Why not take the $80 you were quoted?

Well before I knew of this great price, I went crazy and bought a box on blowout for 118 shipped.

if i average that into the other 80 dollar boxes plus tax, it is 96 a box

A tenured Math teacher can make upwards of 100K a year depending on the school district.

A newer teacher with the same degree and same license in the same district is going to start at 35K. Is that absurd too??

Welcome to the real world. When you put in time, effort, money, etc. you tend to get more in return. A loyal customer spending money for years at an LCS is going to be treated just like that math teacher who stayed loyal to one district for years. Yes, even hobbies can mirror reality.

No doubt...similar to the 80/20 rule....being in sales for 20 years, you take care of the customers that take care of you (my LCS' operate the same way)......reality. My discount is going to be greater for the person that buys 2 mil of product over the person that buys 50k.....and the world goes round and round

This discussion is hilarious. In all kinds of businesses dealers do things differently for different people.
Record Snobs

Does this not ring completely true? I'm sorry but expecting complete equanimity from collectibles dealers, of all people, is going to lead to disappointment.

I had to pay extra to have on live date Wednesday. I am only three days away for free shipping. Don't understand.
