Thank you for posting this. I am a Fred McGriff collector and a lot of the early cards in your collection of Cecil with the Blue Jays are the same cards and sets that I have for McGriff. I started my collection around 88-89 and it's always fun to see the early stuff.

One card in your collection really caught my eye, the 1988 Fire Safety French. I have been trying to track this card down for McGriff for 20 years with no luck at all. Your Fielder is the first actual player card I have seen in the French version, the only other card I have seen is the checklist.

I would really like to hear the story of how you tracked that one down.

I actually found it on eBay. I went back to check and I got it in February. If I remember correctly, the seller had a couple of them and I missed out on the first one because I didn't realize it was the French version. He then listed the second one and I got it for $2.99 plus $4.50 shipping (from Canada).

Good luck tracking down the McGriff!

A much simpler time when you actually could collect all the years cards of any player.

Very cool collection. I have chased many of the same sets with my Saberhagen collection...I posted my latest pick up on it to bring it to the top.

I think Fielder is one of those players everyone loved. It was kind of funny that when watching him....the announcers would bring up the story of him going to Japan, every game he was in it seemed....usually more then once. Like it was the only thing they knew about him...lol.

Thanks! That was one of the hardest ones to track down and now I have 2 of them! I couldn't pass up the one numbered 01/10 when Ty Hope said he had it.

Absolutely. He was my favorite growing up and luckily, he played before there were infinite parallels. There are still some tough ones to track down and I haven't really gone after most of his 1997-1999 cards (I focus on his Tigers cards).

Thank you! I'll definitely check out your Saberhagen collection. Him playing in Japan was definitely mentioned all the time, but mainly because of the crazy season right after he came back. Then they talked about his 51 homers and the huge bombs he hit.

Update time!! I was able to add some nice cards to the collection. I have had a lot of fun trying to track down all the "Rediscover Topps" cards this year. At least they gave me something new to chase. Here are all of the new additions:

2017 Topps Rediscover 1986 Topps Buyback Gold Stamp
2017 Topps Rediscover 1987 Topps Buyback Bronze Stamp

I missed out on a 1988 Silver earlier this month.... If anyone has one, please let me know!

I also have only been able to find 1 Rediscover card of him in a Tigers uniform...I was very surprised by that.

Nice collection man! When I was a kid he was my favorite baseball player bar none. I am from Lakeland where the Tigers still do their Spring Training (just locked them in for the next 100 years, lol). One spring training game when I was about 9, as he was leaving the game he walked up to me and gave me both of his wrist guards and both of his franklin gloves. I can't imagine I will ever forget that day!

Fantastic collection. It's funny to see so many of the same cards/sets as in my Canseco collection. I just recently starting going hard-core on my collection, and I don't even have scans up yet. So time consuming though

That is awesome! I would love to have a story like that to tell. I've never met him, but hopefully I will have the chance some day.

Time for another update to the Big Daddy PC!!!

I was so excited when Topps Fire came out because I finally had another group of cards to chase. Well, I got all 3 of those, but had no idea Topps Archives Postseason Edition would be coming....

Amazing collection!

While looking thru my million card wax era horde for some PSA 10 candidates, I found at least one Fielder last night when I was looking thru the Topps Finest from 1994 and 1995.

Almost untouched since being cherried for the Jeter's and Junior's.

Had to check out the collection and glad I did. Love the oddball cards! Cecil was the Tiger I always admired and still believe he brought back the long ball by becoming the first player to hit 50 or more home runs in what seemed like a eternity.
Still remember when AT&T held a contest for player who would hit the longest home run in a month and after the first 4 months of the season the contest ended because Fielder won every month of the contest.
Wish I had the Promo card that I picked up at a Tiger game. I didn't see it in your list but eventually you will have it. Take care

That is absolutely awesome! Going through your cards reminds me how fun it was to collect ALL the cards of your favorite player back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Today, trying to collect every single card of your favorite player is nearly impossible.

Thanks for sharing your collection! I love it!

Thanks! Too bad it wasn't a 1993 Finest refractor!

Thank you! I would love to get my hands on that promo. I have picked up basically everything I can find, so I haven't seen it yet. I will definitely keep looking!

That is definitely one of the benefits of collecting a player from the 80's and 90's. I couldn't imagine being a player supercollector these days. So many parallels. Cecil has quite a few even from back then. There are some rare ones I'm missing, but the list gets smaller all the time. Thanks!

Well, this is a pretty big update for me as I have finally reached the 1,000 mark for unique Cecil Fielder cards!

I have managed to snag quite a few nice cards over the last few months and even got a redemption from Topps that I had been waiting on for 4 years!

Here are the new additions starting with some small stuff:

2005 Topps Pristine Leading Indicators Refractor bat relic #15/25 (another rare card that I have been looking for)
2013 Gypsy Queen Mini Autograph Retail Exclusive #2/5 (This card had been in the collection a fellow Tigers collector and I have been trying to get it for years...he decided to sell part of collection and it is now mine)
2013 Topps Supreme Kanji Autograph Relic #23/25 (I had been waiting 4 YEARS to get this redemption from Topps! )

The rest are all autographs from 2017 Topps Archives Postseason Signature Edition. I don't have them all, so if you have one I need please let me know!

Do you remember a specific home run contest between Cecil and Jose Canseco or was that my imagination?

Haha....I'm not sure. There was an awful one in 1990 with Fielder and Canseco, but it was awful for everyone involved.

Nice pickups! The archives signature series are really cool.

This is such a terrific collection. That ‘86 Topps Card is rather iconic, IMHO. When he started mashing, we all ran to the commons boxes to gobble those up.
