someone is running an experiment they are calling a Penny to Infinity through COMC. Should be fun to at least watch

I went through my COMC history and retroactively applied the Penny to Infinity concept, starting with my first successful penny flip on August 2, 2013 (which sold the same day for 6 cents).

So far I've parlayed the penny into $58,465.21 in 137,878 trades. This is cherry-picking the fastest selling flips which could have been purchased with the amount of credit received, after the items sold.

For this calculation, I allowed trades to overlap. I didn't require a purchase be funded by a sale which had already been made. So, if I bought a card for 1 cent in 2019 and sold it one year later for 2 cents, that counted as +.01 in 365 days. If I bought another card for 2 cents in 2017 and sold it one year later for 3 cents, that counted as +.01 in 365 days.

I ran the numbers two ways - one with losses and break-even trades, and one with only gains.

With losses, it took 12,167 flips a total of 14,252,297.7 days (about 39,047 years) for a "single card port" to go from 1 cent to $50.

Without losses or break-evens, it took 1,088 flips a total of 1,695,202 days (about 4,546 years) for a "single card port" to go from 1 cent to $50.

The least profitable successful flip:

I'm sure there are some here who did much better buying earlier, but since roughly half these cards were bought after the no-hitter was complete I thought it was an interesting illustration that it is still possible to make money at that point if you are careful about what you are buying.
