Default Ever root against your team?

I like the Giants but have recently found myself rooting for them to lose. Not because I want them to be an awful team but with the trade deadline approaching, I don't want them to be buyers, I want them to be sellers.
This whole off season I was hoping they'd do the exact opposite of what they did and start a rebuild. Giants fans still bring up 2010 like it was just a year or so ago. I think this team/organization/fan base have to suck it up and be bad for a few years to have long term success. So my question is simple, anyone felt this way before?

I wanted the Padres to lose their September 2008 series against the Nationals to improve their chances in the Strasburg Sweepstakes. So of course they instead sweep them and we all know what happened next

I find myself rooting against the Giants as well, Bobby Evans is an idiot.
Denard Span
Jeff Samardzija
Matt Moore
Will Smith
Mike Leake
Casey McGehee
Austin Jackson
Evan Longoria
Mark Melancon

To a lesser extent:
Johnny Cueto
And the unnecessary contracts and no trade clauses to Belt and Crawford.

I want the Orioles to lose every game for the rest of the season. I think Duquette still thinks we have a chance...

I don’t. Losing sucks and a rebuild is never a guarantee of anything. The baseball draft, more than any draft, is unpredictable.

That being said, when my team finishes with a particularly putrid season, I take solace in the fact that at least we’ll have a good draft pick. But that’s just my optimistic nature.

Pretty much same for me, I'd rather just check out completely then watch my team with hopes of losses.

The only times I have rooted against my favorite team have been for selfish reasons, when you have tickets to a playoff game but if they win the series is over you have to want them to lose.

Every time I have A A ron Nola go against the Mets for my fanstasy team.

Actually this year with the Mets I hope they keep losing so they blow up this dumpster free team and restock the farm. Trade everyone but Rosario, Thor, Gsellman, Lugo, Conforto and Nimmo.

Love Degrom but this team is dead in the water. I’d like to see him get dealt for a Quintana/Sale/Chapman-esque return. Though on the flip side I’m over sandy alderson and don’t even trust he would get the right guys. We’d get all relievers back

The question is, will Pablo Sandoval ever get to bat against Casey Mize?

Rooting against "your" team only means they were never really your team. You NEVER root against a team you supposedly cheer for.

What about taking a long term view vs short term? Like a few post above yours. The tigers got the #1 overall pick this year because pablo sandoval hit a walk off home run on the final day last season. A completely meaningless win but perhaps Casey Mize turns into a stud and joey Bart a dud (I hope it isn't the case). Look what the Astros and cubs did, bad years and bad baseball sacrificed for possible long term success with a young core

This. The Orioles winning games for the rest of this season only hurts our future. We have no chance this year and our farm system is trash. A high draft pick is our best base scenario here, as well as trading whatever players we can to build for the future. We are currently built to lose this season and several more.

Always been a Braves fan.

From the woeful 1970's onward...

Losing sucks.

Far more sucky is having a contender and coming close... oh soooooo close.

At least coming close there is always next year...

Braves should have won five WS titles with Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz...

Can't say I've ever rooted against them...

This is why I had to stop fantasy football. The last year I played I had Dez Bryant, and it was very disconcerting to hope he had a great game against my Eagles. I'd have to hope for a 54-48 game with Dez scoring 6 TDs in a losing effort.

I think it’s fine to understand the business side of baseball, sometimes trading good players for prospects is the best move for an organization. It’s fine to be supportive of moves that should make your team worse in the short term but help out with a future window of contention, I get that.

But actually wanting your team to lose? I don’t get that at all. If my team is rebuilding, I want the nobodies and young guys to come up and miraculously win some games.

I can't say that I have ever rooted against the Tigers, but I will say that I don't take the losses as seriously when they are having a rough year. I will always pull for them to win.
