Default I felt compelled to call customer service today

I was going out today and my wife asked me to stop by Walgreen's and get some laundry detergent. My wife coupons for some stuff and laundry soap is usually one of her better items. She gives me 4 coupons already knowing that is typically the max a store will let you use. I go in and see a manager at the stand going through an older ladies stuff (I thought she was stealing) but I go right to the laundry stuff. I take four bottles, I turn around and see the manager looking at me, she asks if I was with the other couple because it's only 4 bottles per household. I say no and start to go check out. She asks again, are u with that other family? You look like the older guy. At this point I'm starting to get annoyed, I already told her no. So I go check out and the guy gives me zero hassle about the coupons I say thanks and leave. I hear something behind me so I turn to see the manager had followed me out to, I assume, make sure I'm not with the other family. I'm not one to typically get mad about much but this had me angry enough to call corporate. I really felt as if she was treating me like a criminal. Even if I had been with the other couple what is she going to do? Call the police on me? I am curious to hear if anyone here has been in retail management because I'm curious if that is a typical practice. I didn't bring race up to the very friendly lady at customer service but the older lady I first saw did look Hispanic. I just thought following me out the door was way too far

Sounds like this is your fault for going to Walgreens for detergent with coupons your wife gave you.

Just let it go and enjoy life.

I would have calmly told her 'I pride myself on the fact that I've never struck a woman but I'm willing to be proud of something else today'.

Just don't go back. Learn from experience and go elsewhere.

As an assistant manager at a retail store we are told to never follow anyone out of the store even if we know they are stealing. So in this case I'd so she most defiantly shouldn't have followed you out of the store

Ummm, let me tell ya. I was a retail store manager for over ten years (CVS, Dollar General & Lowes) and this is NOT how you treat customers, period. Whether the OP was with another family or not is irrelevant, nothing can be done. OP, I would have asked for a refund and politely said F U!!!!!

PS- I got out of retail because I realized I hate people.

I highly doubt Walgreens customer service are decision makers for the company.

Not saying the manager or whoever should have done that. But to get that worked up about it? Come on now

Maybe she took your picture and youre now banned from the store for excessive detergent couponing.

I bet shes on some message board somewhere telling her side. Some sticky thread about coupon enforcement.

Sounded like an opportunity to have a good laugh with your wife about the crazy Walgreens manager rather than waste X amount of time calling corporate to complain.

Call corporate and complain and you might get a couple more coupons!

Worked retail most of my life as a manager. Absolutely calling corporate is warranted here. Anyone saying "don't get so worked up about it" is the kind of person who doesn't think of other people in their daily interactions. Couponing is not illegal, you are a customer, not a criminal. "Not getting worked up" should apply to the Barney Fife Tide patrol manager, not you. Heck, call corporate AGAIN in a week or two and see if they can tell you how they followed up on it. That person sucks and their actions are absolutely worthy of some sort of reprimand. All of us have a right to not expect a hassle/uncomfortable situation when doing something so extremely basic as merely shopping.
