Default Girl Scout Cookies

My kid became a GS a few months ago, and she is now having to sell boxes of cookies. Has anybody else on the forum had any experience helping their kiddos peddle those suckers to potential buyers? She is expected to sell 250 boxes of cookies. Yes, 2-5-0 boxes I thought that the zero was a mistake the first time I saw the goal that my kid had written down, but it was not. How the heck is she going to possibly sell that many boxes of cookies????????? Can it be done?

If you plan on getting it done, your going to have to saddle up and bring her door to door. Get out early and cover as much ground as possible. Look for upscale neighborhoods with houses close together and hit them hard. Don't skip a single house and take notes on who was not home the first try. My son is in cub scouts and they sell popcorn. Spent many saturdays hustling him around from one house/neighborhood to another. He learned alot from it and actually got pretty good at it. He was top salesman in his pack for 2 years running now. I won't lie, it'll take a bit of sacrifice on your part as well. Good luck!!

Your teeth will be rotted out before you finish 100 boxes.

Do you have to front the cash for the 250 boxes?

From what I can tell it has become extremely competitive in selling the cookies. Last Spring there must have been a dozen different set ups in my town in about a mile stretch.

As far as I know, nope on the fronting of cash. I would not do that ever. I would sooner pull my kid out of the GS than do that. What's funny is that the number was pulled out of thin air without consulting any parents as far as I know. A reasonable number to me would be 50 boxes or so. 250 just seems like way too much, especially since she just finished hustling (just had to use that word ) everybody she could a couple months back to help raise money for her school and she was the top salesgirl in her school and only sold about 45 or so items.

Girl Scout cookies sell themselves. those Samaos and Tagalongs are irresistible.

but seriously, a little door to door action and parking herself in front of a grocery store for a day should cover it.

Do they have an online selling site going? For cub scouts my son could sign up for this and sell them online. He didn't even have to ship them, it was all taken care of by the popcorn company. I'd be suprised if they didn't have this yet for girl scouts. Sign your daughter up if you can. Looks like your have several customers here already.

Her troops goal is 8250 boxes. So at 250 boxes a kid, that is 33 kids. Boxes now go for $4 a box. I remember when I was a kid, they were $1.50ish each. Oh the times have a changed for sure. I agree it is quite the racket, but at the same time they are also going to give some of the profits (not sure how much) to a local children's hospital (Miller's Children's Hospital), a local homeless shelter, and a local animal shelter, so at least something good will come from some of the profits.

To everyone who is offering to buy some cookies, I appreciate it and will hit you up with PMs either tomorrow or Friday

I will definitely be looking into that. She might not need a little red wagon to haul those suckers around after all.

They usually do it rather quickly. They only go up for sale once a year so people stock up. I buy like 15 boxes cuz my wife likes those crappy coconut ones and I like the chocolate covered peanut butter ones and you have to buy thin mints.

My daughter just started GS too. We posted on Facebook that she will be selling cookies starting Feb. 2 and a bunch of my friends have already stated that they want to buy some. A few friends have stated that they want a case! I would post on Facebook if you have one and I bet you will get quite a few sales there.

Have you thought about asking your coworkers if they would like to buy some?

The girls around here get the OK to set up shop just inside, near the exit of the local supermarkets and outside the Post Office.

They are everywhere.
