You can read the whole story by clicking here.

The two artists my age or older who did sketch art for "Heritage" were Don Perlin and George Freeman.

Perlin was 33 when the 1962 series was released, so he most likely wasn't attuned to the trading card scene like I was (I also bought cards from Topps' 1962 "Civil War News" trading cards, but never completed the entire set).

Freeman was born in 1951, but he's Canadian, so with the limited distribution the set had, it's not too likely he saw it in 1962.

I'll be curious to see if any of the artists this time around are part of the 1962 "legacy club."

I'm really having a blast drawing cards for this set!!!
Nice to have you around again, Gramps!

I may not have been around when the 1962 set was released, but I grew up well-versed in Mars Attacks. My dad collected the set as a kid and it was still revered in our house. That's why I love the Mars Attacks brand so much, it's as dear to me as Star Wars and Muppets.

Glad to still be around.

You obviously had a great dad!

Yeah, "Star Wars" is right up there for me as well. When it premiered in 1977, many hardcore science fiction fans stuck their noses up at it. But not me... I loved it from the opening scene. Saw it 17 times during its initial run.

As long as you send me an AP version, I'm fine with that.

Thanks!

I was new to sketch cards, so I was still feeling my way around the tiny art format and the whole sketch cards thing in general.

That's why I'm having so much fun doing "Invasion."

Here's my contribution. This gives me a good idea though: A special monkey sketch program where each artist has to draw a monkey card on a special card design! Something for next time!

Alvin: You do realize I cannot buy all the cases, right? Why are you doing this to me?

Seriously, thanks for sharing that. I'm very excited to try and pick up some of the Primate Specials.

What will you do if Viceroy does a "Primates" sketch card set?

Very cool! Anything Monkey/Ape related would be awesome!

My gorilla card is one of a series of 4 or so. I have the martians running through the Zoo gates, then one gorilla getting disintegrated and this gorilla (and an elephant) striking back. Unfortunately not all will be painted. Wish I had the time!

If those are a sequence, Zero, be sure to wrap them separate when you return to Topps. I want to do something called "Loaded Sketch Packs" where we put 4 sketches in one pack, and it would be cool if there was a reason (puzzle, sequence, theme, etc).

I myself did a 4-card sequence of a girl getting attacked, then beating the hell out of a Martian!

I just finished a 3-card puzzle and will post it as soon as it's approved.

I can't put it above the monkey cards, but as a fan of conspiracy theories it is next in line.

Thanks for all the nice words guys! It's been fun working on these. Here's another fully painted card, plus a look at the back.
