I make my own traps. Bowl with some apple cider vinegar - cover with plastic wrap - poke some holes in the top - they fly in and drown.

I've read about that solution.
I'll try that for the kitchen, the sticks will be for my room. |

This is what you need here. Worked when we had fruit flys all over the house a few years ago.

Funny you say that, I was kicking soccer balls at the youngest last night and a gnat flew in my mouth.

we had a huge problem with them, buy a pack of those hanging fly ribbon sticky traps and some apple cider vinegar. take a small empty box like a cereal box, cut out a section in the back, hang one of those fly ribbons inside of it and put a paper cup inside with about 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar in it right under the fly ribbon. It worked amazing. We actually made a few of them and placed them in trouble spots around the house. No more fruit flies, or knats. Also catches actual flies too, haha

forgot to mention, we tried the Raid fly sticks, and we also tried the bowl with apple cider vinegar and plastic wrap route first. It does catch some, but man, those fly ribbons catch everything that touches it. They cant get away. I actually cut the ribbons in half (very carefully because they are sticky as heck and its tough to clean off your hands) and hang them in the box that way, but they do the trick for sure

Have you tried to figure out why you have the infestation in the first place? Over watered house plants, garbage not getting taken out enough? We had fruit flies many years back and it was because there was a forgotten bag of potatoes in a hidden corner of one of our cabinets.
By the way when we had our issue I thought I out smarted them and put a bowl of left over green beans in our microwave and left the door open for about an hour. Then shut the door and turned the microwave on with them in there. Believe it or not, it didn't phase them. |

The potatoes are sitting out in the open and MANY were swarming it a few days ago.
Now it's getting less. |

I'll agree with the apple cider vinegar method. Used it not too long ago. Except instead of plastic wrap, put the vinegar in a small bowl, place that in a larger bowl, doesn't have to be huge, then fill the outer bowl with soapy water all the way up to the edge of the smaller bowl. Worked like a charm, within 2 days infestation was all gone. About twice a day I would redo the soapy mixture and once a day change the vinegar, mainly to clean out the bodies.
