Haha - It was a solid assumption, but my grumpiness this afternoon isn't sports related. I think you may have found the Virginia fan in the post prior to this one though.

Great pull young man! I bought the David Bowie last year, had to have it. People will want that card—heritage collectors as well as Connery fans. Great pull.

First: Congrats on the great pull.
Second: How, oh how do you not know who Sean Connery is? Second: Holy cow that's an ugly "signature." That honestly looks like a doodle a first grader made.

How is it a pull of a lifetime and you don’t even know who it is?
Something stinks..

I was born in '74. If I pulled a Clark Gable auto in 1989-90, I knew then that he was in "Gone With the Wind", and was a big star in the 40s, but that's about it. Movie-wise, I was into Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc more than looking at old movies with my mother. This kid's James Bond is Daniel Craig. Just keep it in perspective..we have a youngster collecting cards! I went to a show today, and I was one of the younger patrons, it was depressing. Great pull kid! |

Value Wise it is. But I’ve pulled cards that I’ve liked more. Can only be so specific in the title of a blowout thread

Congrats on the hit!
Not sure why people feel the need to give you a hard time for not knowing who Sean Connery is, especially given your age.

....despite your poor support for your point, I do see where you're coming from (and I considered this). That said, Sean Connery is one of the most famous actors of all time and I truly think this is a reflection of how into the "now" kids today are, and how little the younger generation are interested in even the recent past. The internet is to blame, cell phones are to blame, our insatiable desire to have every whim immediately attended to is to blame. I'm not upset with our OP even the slightest. Just extremely surprised and a little dismayed to have it illustrated for all of us here how easy it is to ignore everything except the tiny world on which we focus endlessly (we limit ourselves with trivial things, don't read enough, don't stretch ourselves, etc). Connery is/was one of the more famous human beings that's ever been a part of our cultural landscape. Given how frequently Connery's name and image are still referenced, it's like living in the middle of a 40 year sunny day and somehow not noticing the sun because you're too interested in the trees, sky, etc.

Google him....he's a legend that retired not too long ago. James Bond, Indiana Jones's dad, just a couple of his most memorable roles. Great hit.

I totally agree with you..I was trying to make a point without insulting the young man. By reading the responses ( "I'm senior. I know who James Bonds (plural?) is", I sense there may be a cultural/language barrier as well (or just poor grammar), but who knows. Today's kids are definitely not into history or the past in general, and I put a lot of it on piss-poor parenting as well as the technological distractions you mentioned. I will also admit I was way ahead of where this young man is when parallels are being drawn to my own life experiences, but everyone's background is different. My dad had a great job/education and my mother rode me like Seabiscuit about grades/academics, but they also were very into pop culture and shared the movies/music of their youth, so I was fortunately pretty well-balanced. I've seen a lot of kids in their 20s with very limited knowledge of how society works.. I should probably take this on over to the "off-topic" section, so I'll stop. |

The guy has been a meme for years. NO REASON not to know who he is. It's pop culture not anything you could be " too young to know". Ive never seen Mr Ed, it I know he's a friggin talking horse

I hope you're not sweating any of this, OP. You're not to blame; we are all to blame for cheating the younger generation out of something. We've been bad teachers.
We've gotten a lot of Bond talk, but have any of us mentioned this? Even a younger person should really appreciate this....I still say it all the time in a Connery voice.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPjvDE-rKo0

Congrats!, this photo pretty much sums up who Connery is! Check out how similar his signature still looks to when he was Bond...

It's funny how we are shocked by the OPs lack of knowledge regarding Sean Connery and that the blame is on how the youth is wrapped up in the now and technology. Yet, here we all are spending our time writing in a forum. It's not just the youth, it's all of society. It's a different world we all live in these days.

I’m not dogging the kid.
My point is this... You pull a cut auto of someone you claim to have zero idea of who it is and post in all capital letters that it’s the biggest pull of your life. Im saying he probably looked him up before posting this thread. It only makes sense.
