1) Defense sucks - hardly the case. Didi is a wiz at SS, and removing Castro from 2B is addition by subtraction. OF defense with Gardner in LF, Hicks in CF and Judge in RF is well above average. Putting Stanton in LF or RF from time to time won't hurt much.

2) Pitching is not good - A starting rotation of Sevy, Tanaka, Gray, Monty and likely CC is well above average. In fact, top to bottom, only rotations in the AL I'd want over theirs is Houston and Clev. Montgomery was very good as a rookie, a lot of people don't realize it. But as the 4th or 5th starter, you can do a lot worse than him. And I expect Cashman to get someone else as well....

3) Even if rotation is average, they have one of the best, if not the best, pens in the game. Chapman, D-Rob, Betances, Green and Warren is filthy.

Now I'm not saying they are winning the WS, but they are in a much better spot than they were yesterday and Cash is not done yet....

This is coming from a Yankees fan btw.

They have a good pen, not one of the best. Betances towards the end showed why they are not great. There are several other pens I would take ahead of the Yankees.

Pitching wins championships, home runs sell tickets.
The pitching rotation is the biggest problem and concern. The Yankees mashing out 5 runs a game is irrelevant if you give up 6 each time. The Yankees have to get another quality pitcher, specifically someone who is a ground ball pitcher with the stadium. I did see somewhere yesterday where someone was saying a trade that should be done by the Yankees is to get Gerrit Cole which I thought was interesting. Just go sign Arrieta and make every body ma at the Yankees, while you are at it, grab Greg Holland too.

I think Harper is still coming. Just read a local story by me that made sense. Along the lines of Dodgers wanted Stanton, but would prefer him in 2019, when they have a lot of money coming off their books. Stanton wants to play back home in California. Yanks and Dodgers deal next off-season, then Yanks make run at Harper.

Castro had to go to make room for Torres.

Could be completely wrong too, but its an interesting idea.

The MVP literally loves the desperation move.

But, Yankees don’t buy their talent anymore... That’s so Steinbrenner

Please list said bullpens that you would take ahead of the "not one of the best" Yankees bullpen

I wished we kept Mateo because an infield of Bird, Torres, Didi and Mateo could've been an epic combo of power and speed. We still have to find a home for someone at 3rd, Andujar?

And I wouldn't have wanted either Cole or Arrieta. NL pitchers have a tendency to tank in the AL.

He was turning cartwheels when Boston got rid of Sandoval

The only person that comes to mind would be Sandoval, yet again he still cashed out.

I love this thread, reminiscing on bad contracts. David Price rings a bell, Ellsbury. Lol

Ellsbury goes beyond bad. It needs a website all to itself.

Mateo had a lot of upside, but so does Gray, at a reasonable price still. I think in 2019 Torres will move over to 3rd, when Headley is gone. Then, you still have Wade, Torreyes or Andujar to play 2nd.

I also believe that Stanton is a "short term" acquisition by NY. Don't know if they end up dealing him in a year or two or if he opts out in 2020.

I am here for people raining on the Yankees parade, I still think they have a ways to go before being a title contender....

but

Their pen is awesome, you could argue there are better closers than Chapman but if Betances/Robertson are healthy....watch out.

Thats the best part of their team, except for the 110 HR in the middle of the line up
