Steal a Base, Steal a Taco Promotion Includes Baseball Card Set
October 15, 2018 By Rich Mueller

Taco Bell’s ‘Steal a Base, Steal a Taco’ promotion is back for the World Series but this year’s promotion has something of interest to card collectors. The fast food giant has partnered with Topps for a small set of cards that will be available beginning October 23. There is a bit of a catch, though.

For the last six years, Taco Bell has handed out free tacos nationwide as long as someone steals a base in the World Series. It’s apparently been a big hit and now there’s a baseball card tie-in that should give the baseball card market a national publicity boost.

The trading card set that will be handed out at restaurants will include the six “Taco Heroes” who’ve triggered the free food by stealing the first base in the series. Here’s the catch: The six Topps cards will be available only in local restaurants around the ballparks hosting the World Series beginning with Game One on October 23, and the only way to get them is to buy a special baseball cap that’s also part of the promotion. The pack will include six Taco Hero cards each with their own exclusive imagery and stats.

Another card featuring the player who steals the first base in the 2018 series will be available for 24 hours through Topps NOW so you’ll have to pay attention.

Images of the individual cards aren’t available yet but you can get an idea of what they look like through the promotional photo posted here.

The 2018 World Series begins with Game One on October 23 and will at least run through a Game Four on October 27, and at most a Game Seven on October 31, if necessary. Once the first base is stolen, fans can get a free Doritos Locos Taco on Thursday, November 1 from 2 PM to 6 PM (local time) at all participating U.S. Taco Bell locations, while supplies last.
extreme level of bs that it's only available to local places near the games.

as a TN fan that does not live near any of those cities, I agree.
But in reality, if they released it nationwide, all of these would either wind up in the trash, or more likely, scalpers would gobble them up and sell them on ebay.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think the latter is what happens anyway, no matter if it's local or nationwide.

Taco Bell is possible the worst food ever made.

I once had a friend tell me out of all the fast food it’s the best for you. I have no clue if that is correct and I’m to lazy to look it up.

You've lived a sheltered life if Taco Bell is the worst food you've ever had and clearly you never had my mom's cooking.

I wonder what qualifies as in the ball park vicinity? Metro LA is a big place. Some of it might be worth a trip.

LA is all sprawl, so it will be interesting to see what areas they are referring to.

My assumption is that the hat (required purchase) will be $15, so that will limit the "scalpers."

I believe it's a certain design of Taco Bell baseball cap that must be purchased to get the cards. Unclear whether it will be on their site (sounds likely) but it's not there yet.

I'm 2.5 hours from LA. Thinking about going this weekend. Wife thinks it's a dumb idea. But then again I may just find the sets on ebay for $5 in a month as well.

Taco Bell: Where the taco's will slide right through the grasp of your digestive system, just like the base stealers!

The hat will be on the site, I do not believe that the cards will be included.

That hat would become the American symbol of "Everybody out of the way, clearly that guy needs a bathroom."

So I have been wondering- have there been years where no one stole a base and no one got a free taco, or just years where this promo didn’t happen?
