Or if we did not go in there in the first place.

I don't agree with meddling to begin with, but we owe it to the people to only withdraw when the climate has stabilized. Early exit created a harsher post environment. The US caused the same blight for the South Vietnamese, after bailing on them.

We can't afford to keep military forces in every country that has a problem with us, or that we have a problem with.

The problem here is some of these countries will never be stable. Not in 10 years, not in a hundred.

No doubt about it. That region hasn't been stable since the dawn of civilization.

Yups. The only way some nations can be stable is under dictatorships. Removing a despot only creates a power vacuum for every faction to fight over.

On point. He had to be removed though because of WMD's.

true. attempting to establish democracies in the region will never, ever, work. There are two options: Dictatorship/tyranny or complete chaos. take your pick really.

On 24 July 2013, the United Nations put out an estimate of over 100,000 that had died in the war.

On 30 April 2014, the figure from the UN was 191,369.

Turn it all into a glass parking lot. This area of the world will NEVER change. Ever.

When I respond that they are simply seeing the actions of a few that certainly don't represent the thoughts of the majority, the follow up question is then, so why don't the majority of Muslims then unite and deal with these factions?

It's a question I cannot answer.
Maybe we should start arming that majority instead. I mean, they ain't building all those guns themselves, right? or are they?

I find it odd how the beheading of one person stirs up so much more emotion than the bombing of tens of thousands. I guess its just the graphic nature that somehow makes us so much more involved with one and desensitized to the other.
