Default Tim Tebow invited to Spring Training Camp

Mets are not giving up on the Tebow project. He's been invited to their Spring Training Camp.

Before all the irrational hate shows up in this thread, i just want to say good for Tim. He's a hard working and he deserves everything he earns.

I might be a little biased though...

I agree and I like Tebow, but I can't agree that his numbers in the minors last year or his performance warrants the invite this year.

Why wouldn't you invite a cash cow to Spring Training? Not saying that's the whole reason they're doing it but if they were on the fence, that would put him over it.

I don't care either way. Would be cool to see him succeed if he truly earns it.

His numbers were not terrible last year but he was 29 playing in A ball.

I really wish he would go away but I completely see an organizations reasoning behind wanting to have him appear and get some additional people in the seats

That is the whole reason.

I personally root for him. I know that there are people who hate him so much with every fiber of their being, but really, what has he done to deserve such scorn. He seems like a nice enough guy and is fulfilling a dream to play baseball at the major league level. I see nothing wrong with it. Kudos to the Mets for giving him another opportunity.

I dont get the hate for spring training invites.

The guy is a god in parts of Florida. So let him play in ST & sell extra tickets & get extra press.

Its not hurting anyone. Smart business & pr move.

Also he seems to be 1 of the guys you dont have to wake up in the mornings & worry about his name in a headling for the wrong reasons.

Im honestly not a huge spiritual person, but he seems to be a genuinely awesome person.

Im not sure its just the money he draws. He has an internal drive to succeed. Imagine the kids seeing this guy they know has about no shot at making it. He comes in and outworks everyone I bet.

Great guy to have in any locker room, too. I'm sure a lot of the young guys go to him for questions in regards to work ethic/dealing with media/etc.

Imagine if you're a guy in your 5th or 6th year in the minors who had a pretty good year last year and you weren't invited to spring training while Tebow was. that can't be good!

Good for him. At least when he kneeled, it wasn't disrespectful.

As a UF and Mets fan I am happy to see Tebow and Alonso in camp.

Exactly. Its all about the Mets needing to put a few extra fans in the seats. Hes awful at baseball just like he was awful in the NFL. Can't wait for him to disappear. If he didn't put his religion out there at the forefront of every single discussion he has, he'd already be out of all the leagues. Too many people (mostly religious) think he deserves a chance because he believes in God and is a "nice person." Mets should use that spot for a prospect with a future. Not someone who doesn't have a chance to touch the majors.

In all honesty, this will probably be the last hoorah for Tebow. Invite him to big league camp, watch him struggle, send him down to minors camp, watch him struggle, release him. Mets got what they wanted out of him. His popularity put butts in the seats in the minor league parks. Our local minor league team couldn't fill more than half the stadium but when the Port St. Lucie Mets came to town, they were at capacity and only had standing room only tickets for sale. I like the guy and all and wish him the best but I just don't see him ever at the major league level.

He won’t disappear. Sorry to break the news. People don’t like him because he is good at sports, they like him because he is a genuinely good human being and is an example of how others should act. Even if he never plays another game he won’t be going anywhere.

We need more people like Tebow in the world and less people like you who hate on people like Tebow.

that would be whichever day the Mets have to pay the "Meal Money" for a 3rd week, and it starts to get real on defining your 40 man roster and they need to really figure out those last few spots. Not that Tebow would be one, but he can't be a distraction on that puzzle solving, either.

I think he will have a soft landing, eventually, back on television, where hopefully his positive attitude could make him a popular sports journalism personality perhaps.

Agree his future in in television. Disagree that "perhaps" has any place in projecting the massive success he will realize. If the long term extension he signed with ESPN was ripped up, I still think Tebow will be analyzing/commentating on stuff for you for decades.

Guess what? Some people have opportunities in life that most other people don't. Nepotism is a good example.

At least Tebow seems like a humble and good person that keeps his nose clean.

With spring training invites are teams limited & Tebow is taking a roster spot?

I thought at ST you can invite anyone. Teams sign guys to ST contacts all the time. The Padres a few years back had Garth Brooks at ST.

If he is taking a roster spot its different. Otherwise I dont see an issue.

The question would be why is that 5th year Minor leaguer Not getting an invite.
Cant blame Tebow if its an open camp ( No roster number limit ).

I am not biased and I agree with with you. He seems like a genuinely good person and why people try to tear him down is beyond me and just reflects much more poorly on them.

Agree with this. I remember recently Will Ferrell on some teams. Although that was a bit different
