Will someone think of the children who won't be able to buy Trout rookies?

I was looking over some stupid purchases last night and realized how many graded 2011 Update or BC parallels I could have gotten instead.

Fishing may have changed my life...

Where did the clector thing come from? I've seen many post that but don't know why.

I think some upset indic=vidual that came on here and continued to say it? I have no real idea though.

I have seen it non stop for months now in almost every thread, yet not a single one of those times was it funny. Most of the time there will be a legitimate question or conversation going on, and you get a response with clectors, furious or about three fiddy. Call me dull, but it is far more annoying than funny.

So...looking back at the crazy run up in Trout prices over the last six months or so, a question for everyone: What have been your best pickups? And...on the other side of the coin, biggest missed opportunities?

In Nov & Dec during 10% eBay bucks periods I picked up 2 Diamond PSA 10ís for $970 and $990, and a base update PSA 10 for $275

Not really been involved one way or the other, but I'm sure a lot of people have some nice pickups to share

Missed oppty was not having the $10k in my Paypal to hit the BIN on the '09 Black Sterling for $9999. Would have been a nice $3k flip

Best pickup was more of mis price by the seller. Picked up an 2010 Green Plat auto for $375. Made a huge chunk of change ($1000+ profit) after it got 9.5/10, and I think the buyer will also see a very nice return.

Side note - my 8.5 Blue Chrome went up $5,500 the last month. Highest offer was $8k before streak and just got a $13.5 offer. Not selling at that price but good to know current market value. Ideally would love to get in PSA 9 holder but that would cost $900 to slab it, even it gets an 8 or 8.5 (used to be a 9 but that is ancient history) Not worth $900 to move it sideways, eventually I need to try it though.
Really glad I didn't sell at $8k a month ago. Was very close to.

Wow - that's a really solid offer. Honestly surprised that there are a few 9.5 blues sitting @ $30k. With recent sales on Base, Ref, X climbing ever higher, the Blue looks like a relative steal.

Today's mail!

It's so nice when cards appreciate in value while in transit.

Also, glad to finally have the band back together. Should have never broken up in the first place!

Yes it was. I need to get this in a PSA holder, the problem is, with the boom in pricing even a PSA 8 is valued at like $12k on the SMR price guide - so I'm paying the $900 Premium service no matter what. I liked the idea of doing the Walk in service for $300, then if it got a PSA 9 I would gladly pay the difference at that point. Looks like I missed that window.

I have the same dilemma with my Hope Diamond. It had super strong subs for a BGS 9 (8.5, 10, 10, 9.5), so I cracked and subbed to PSA hoping for a 10...came back PSA 9. Then cracked and subbed to BGS hoping for a 9.5...came back a 9 with lower subs. Aargh!! Learned through this process that I went in the wrong order - should have subbed to BGS first, then to PSA...and just left it in the PSA 9 if that was the end result. Now I don't know if I should try again given how high the subs were the first time. But...it's only getting more expensive to do so.

I think the catchphrase timeline is something like this:

Clectors begot furious begot livid begot MEGA begot boring.

TBP may have helped fan the flames on each of these.

I'd send it back to PSA with a 9 minimum grade. Have a long shot at a 10, if not a 9 in a brand new case would look good.

So GCR then, rather than crack and sub?

My only thought here is that PSA is less likely to give a 10 to a card that they know has already received a 9 from BGS. I guess anything's possible...but I have a hard time believing that they don't take the present grade into account, as much as they'd like to say that they just grade the card...
