Every move we make indicates a 100% chance of a bridge year. Why no prospect trading? Send Ellesbury and prospects for a Wacha or Hensley caliber pitcher? Its driving me insane

It's absolutely a bridge year, which I'm alright with, but I'd rather see them just give young guys a shot than bringing in guys on their last leg.
Let's face it, they are waiting for Bogaerts, Bradley Jr, Barnes, Webster, Brentz, De La Rosa The Oakland A's and Rays seem to compete with a low payroll and by promoting prospects/signing bargain free agents. Thats how the 2004/2007 Red Sox won. Why can't we do that now? Napoli, Victorino, Gomes, David Ross? now this?! Lester, Buchholz, Dempster, Doubront, Lackey. At least there will be lots of souvenirs for all of the people who buy bleacher seats!

$13M+ to another 35yr old? *pounds head on desk*
Because Lackey has worked out SO well: 2010 - 14-11, 4.40 ERA 2011 - 12-12, 6.41 ERA 2012 - missed entire year w/ Tommy John surgery 2013 - TBD 2014 - TBD Edit: I'm growing wary over the Sox recent interest in the number 13: 2 years, $26 million - David Ortiz 3 years, $39 million - Mike Napoli 3 years, $39 million - Shane Victorino 2 years, $26.5 million - Ryan Dempster Generally, I'm not superstitious by nature - but why tempt fate? Christmas came even earlier for Sox fans with the signing of Youk!
Yankees aren't in great shape themselves.

Yes because the Yankees have done so much this offseason.
The division is wide open. The Red Sox are being smart with their money, signing quality players (Except for Victorino, too much), they will be competitive. Not trading Ellsbury is gonna piss me off all year. |

I am torn on trading ellsbury. if they got hamilton i would have said yes. he stock is low right now. what would you get right now a couple of mid level prospects. on the other side what happens if he gets hurt and is out 3/4 of the season and he walks and they get nothing or (which will never happen) they sign him on the cheaper side

There is about less than 1% chance they re sign Ellsbury so they need to trade him. Im guessing theyll package him with Salty and one other player and try to get a good pitcher, not just a no. 4 guy either.
Boras already said they want a long term deal (which the Red Sox aren't doing now) and they want 18-21/year, way too much for a player that has had 1 great year sandwiched with injury prone seasons. Hate to say it but they need to get something for him and his value is about as high as it should be right now, since a team can have him for the whole season instead of just half.
