Default Venom Movie to Feature the Villain Carnage

Sony is moving full-speed ahead on their Spider-Man spinoff, Venom. Last month, Tom Hardy signed on to star with Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad) on board to direct with a release date set for October 5, 2018. For those who are unfamiliar with the character, Venom’s original incarnation is photographer Eddie Brock, a rival at the Daily Bugle to Peter Parker. After Peter Parker ditches the alien symbiote that gave him the black suit but also amplified his darker impulses, the symbiote comes across Brock and merges with him to become Venom. Venom basically has all of Spider-Man’s powers, but he’s bigger, meaner, and drools a lot.

While it’s unclear how exactly Venom will work if his story is no longer tied to Spider-Man’s, that doesn’t seem to be a concern for Sony. The film is moving ahead, and now THR reports in an-depth article about the Sony/Marvel deal that Venom will also feature the villain Carnage.

Amy Pascal seemed to surprise Kevin Feige during a joint interview recently when she said Venom, Silver Sable/Black Cat, and Spider-man were all in the same Sony universe. Should be interesting going forward.

Producer Says Spider-Man: Homecoming, Venom, and Silver and Black Will Exist in Same World

I'm sure it will be some sort of small cameo or touch-base at the beginning of sorts. Hopefully the Infinity War movie will make the connection with the symbiote.

Now I'm seeing this on multiple sites, salt shakers at the ready of course: Sony's Spider-Man Movie-verse Will Feature Carnage, and May Include Kraven and Mysterio Films

Kraven and Mysterio huh? If so bring it on!

Sounds like 361 is going up in price... crazy how movie announcements raise the price of a book. Glad I held onto a few copies.

Although I won't be surprised by an additional increase, it went up years ago when Venom: Carnage was first announced and never came down when that movie fell off the map.

Bummer I still don't have a 361 CGC 9.8. The 9.6 will just have to do. Curious to see if this bumps some of the other early apps that are sitting around $5-$10 raw. I've been stocking up on those.

I'm not. I really have low expectations. I'm bummed about it because I love Carnage but just don't see how they do the character or plot any justice with this approach.

After seeing him as "Jerome/AKA maybe Joker, maybe not" on Gotham, I could see Cameron Monaghan pulling off Cletus Kasaday very well.

It's not that I doubt the actors abilities in any way... it's the studio

Keep in mind while ASM 361 is a the king. Don't pass on ASM 344, 345, 359 and 360 all will do well over time.

That's exactly what I've been picking up lately I also think 362 and 363 will fare well in the long run. I think anybody who wants to have a Carnage collection will be after those 7 books.

I will love it if has those funny moments like Zombieland did.

Remember everyone hated Heath Ledger's Joker before the movie came out. Everyone hated it.

I love Zombieland. It's one of my favorite movies. But making a movie about Venom and Carnage that is funny instead of dark and gritty is setting it up for failure, in my opinion. They've already taken a swing at Venom and missed, big-time. The Topher Grace incarnation is arguably the worst of nearly a dozen Spider-Man rogues portrayed on the big screen.

Disappointed this is the direction they're taking the movie. No wonder Marvel is so adamant that it isn't part of MCU continuity. I'm sure they have some long term hopes for the symbiote in their universe, if they can ever get it back.

Venom is one of my favorite Marvel characters. Not because he is funny. I also like Carnage, for reasons other than humor. I will be disappointed if the movie's tone is not dark and gruesome. Has Sony seen Logan? Still, doesn't mean the movie won't be enjoyable. It just means the movie won't be what I want it to be.

Electro and Sandman were equally terrible.

I was fine with Rhino. I think it's head-to-head between Electro and Venom, personally. Agree Sandman was bad, but I don't think that was as disappointing. The whole movie was... unfortunate.

Venom/ Carnage movie a comedy? I guess they're trying to appeal to children so they can sell toys?

It's making the market do dumb things for comics that have huge print runs but I have a set of ASM 300 and 361 9.6's if anyone is looking LOL.
