Mainstream Hip Hop:

Run the Jewels 'Run the Jewels 2'

Oh and haven't heard the weezer record but it seems like its gotten much stronger love than their last few. This dude I know started a Japanese language duo thing with rivers cuomo, aptly title Scott and Rivers. Got a #1 album in Japan I guess!

Blue album is probably a top 10 all time for me and Pinkerton probably top 25

Freaking great album.

The War on Drugs album is very good. Spoon's "They Want My Soul" is probably my favorite all-around album this year.

Really guys? Brian Eno wasn't a familiar name, after all of his work with U2? Speaking of which, the album he did here is a followup to the U2 album that the label wouldn't release under their name in the 90's, because it was mostly instrumental and other stuff they did as movie feature music, in the vein of their film collaborations with Wim Wenders. You can find it under the name/title "PASSENGERS"

I'm middle aged, balding and white. I try to listen to NPR's "Sound Opinions" every Saturday at 3 for new music or great stories involving the music industry. I credit them with introducing me to Janelle Monae a few years back, and I can absolutely vouch for her live show! They had said the new Weezer was their best effort in years...

I know many people are lukewarm to them, but Linkin Park's "The Hunting Party" was my favorite album of the year...

Sixx: A.M, Modern Vintage is great. I cannot wait to see them live!
Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter. I have not put it down the 2 weeks that I have had it.
Black Stone Cherry, Magic Mountain. I love this album. The band is great live too.
Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways
Black Label Society, Catacombs of the Black Vatican. You know what you are getting from Zakk.
Seether, Isolate and Medicate is another solid album.
In this Moment, Black Widow.
Linkin Park, The Hunting Party is a solid album that find its way into my play list a lot.
Smashing Pumpkins, Monuments to an Elegy. I love Tommy Lee's drumming

Honorable mention

Buckcherry, fu*k (EP) Just because of every song title has the word fu*k in it and they do an Icona pop cover of I love it.
Bush, Man on the Run. Another solid album.

The passengers record is legit weird and pretty awesome. I kind of totally forgot about that record. I don't think it has anything to do with the eno/hyde record, does it? Karl Hyde is the dude from underworld

I too am a fan of sound opinions, though not a regular listener these days. It used to be bill Wyman and Jim derogatis like twenty years ago, I remember them debating who was better, green day vs weezer, when those bands were both new, heh

This is a little cool story bro-y, but I opened for spoon once back in the day, they were not particularly nice, we played kind of bad, and I've been irrationally anti-spoon ever since, never check em out beyond the radio singles

Yeah I will listen to anything, wasn't always that way but has been for a while.

The youth was spent listening to screamo/hardcore.

Ha -- that's hilarious and awesome! I've always figured Britt Daniel was a douche, but the man makes awesome music.

Kind of a quiet release. I just stumbled across it on Spotify the week after it came out. Very solid album.
