Jon Bernthal really liked the Punisher photo variant. It was the first one he had ever seen. But the book just came out recently, so I think it'll be a very popular item for him to sign next week at Ace Comicon.

As it's sold out everywhere, I expect he will be seeing a lot of them.

Great choice for the Routh pop. And it's numbered too!

Got another slab! OP updated. NYCC 2017 Justice League #15 signed by Henry Cavill in CGC 9.8! It's too bad Superman is not on the cover, but that was intentional for marketing purposes. Although if you ask me, that was probably the worst kept secret

Here's my newest pickup: ASM #3! I know it's not a CGC SS slab, but I'm hoping to change that in April when Stan Lee comes to Silicon Valley Comic Con. Any tips on getting this signed? Black sharpie? Maybe silver or gold in case he signs over Doc Ock? It's hard to tell where Stan will sign. From past experience, he'll just put it anywhere.

Nice ASM #3! You have to go with Stan Lee's reps for CGC SS. You won't be able to do it on your own with a cgc witness.

You can crack it out and window where you want him to sign. He signs all over the place so the window would be the best option.

Good luck and can't wait to see how the sig turns out.

and a lot of times the celebrity appreciates it when fans bring an extra as a gift... 'tho now these days I know it's odd since here these celebrities are having the event organizers charge for autographs and even more odd, charging for photo ops as well, so it's become so impersonal and sterile of an encounter. Nonetheless, sometimes if you bring an extra item, it humanizes the situation and you'll get a handshake, smile and friendly engagement to remember.

The "just sign it anywhere" strategy is flawed.

What you might end up with is Stan using a black sharpie signing over the black silhouette of Doc Ock.

We've all seen examples of poorly placed autographs, especially with Stan Lee, who is supposedly in a condition where he can't even read comics, so his vision isn't too good, and the event handlers just push comics randomly in front of him with lightning speed not caring for the condition of the comic nor the placement of the signature unless you are specific in your efforts.

The best might be to have him sign over the Amazing Spider-Man logo so it does not obstruct the beautiful cover artwork, or use a silver/gold/white marker to sign inside of the Doc Ock silhouette.

Thanks for mentioning this. I had no idea that there are special procedures for witnessing Stan Lee's signature. It seems to be a bit of a hassle. But now that I have the book in hand, I'm not sure that I want to get it signed. The spine has a lot of wear/tear and the staple looks like it's barely keeping it together. I'm worried that it would get a "detached cover" notation on the label if I attempted to get it signed.

True, I was browsing eBay for Stan Lee CGC books and it seems a good number of them were signed within the last few years. Some have really poor placement: signed over the character's face, black sharpie on dark areas, sharpies that are too thick, etc.

I think I'm going to take some risk out of this and just buy a copy that's already CGC SS. I'm thinking ASM 16, 31, or 50 for keys. Or maybe an affordable low grade non-key in the 30s or 40s. I see a few in the $200-300 range. What do you guys think?

Just depends on what you want to collect. I prefer Stan's sig on something Stan worked on. I wouldn't buy high grade, more low to mid grade. If you're just looking for his signature then $150-200 is a decent price range. If you are looking at keys in the low-mid grade with his auto then we're talking $200+ and closer to $3-400. Just his auto alone costs around $125/sig depending on which convention you go to.

Do you know how I can get in contact with Stan Lee's reps? Is it something that has to be done in advance? I was hoping I could just go to the CGC booth in the morning, on the day of the convention, and make the arrangements.

You can ask CGC and they'll direct you to their reps. You can't miss them. I think they're called EXCELSIOR COLLECTIBLES. They're usually at the same table when Stan signs...it's a biiiiiiiiig table/area.

Desert Wind (if you can still trust them) still uses Excelsior Collectibles. He may have signings planned but they use Excelsior to get the sigs/witness. IF you are at a convention when Stan is there...you can only use Excelsior or if someone has a private signing with Stan then Excelsior rep is still there.

Just providing him with an option of somebody he can contact to get his book signed by Stan. The price they gave me for signed and CGC was cheaper than if I did it myself at a convention.

And if you are suggesting they aren't reputable, you should provide some support for that statement.

Don't have anything to support this....just what people have told me when I'm at conventions. Desert Wind used to be the only source for Stan...needless to say now they aren't.

The last 2 pickups have been Spiderman related with no signatures. Buying this Tom Holland Spiderman slab gets me back on the CGC SS track.

What's next? I'm really eyeing the Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor Strange CGC SS movie photo cover, but it's pretty pricey and I don't want to settle for a comic cover. I'm hoping he'll do another signing soon to bring these prices down.

Well, I did it...picked up a Doctor Strange book signed by Benedict Cumberbatch and Stan Lee. Also an Alias #1 in hopes that Krysten Ritter comes back one day. I missed her at Silicon Valley Comicon couple weeks ago.
